Background

The UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the centre of all its efforts, the UN Women will lead and coordinate United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It will provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.

The Administrative Associate reports to the Operations and Finance Manager and is responsible for performing a variety of finance and administrative tasks and services in the Country Office (CO) and support to the Representative’s Office  ensuring timeliness, accuracy and compliance with UN Women rules, regulations, processes and procedures and promotes a client, quality and results oriented approach.
 
The Administrative Associate works in close collaboration with the Finance Analyst as well as with operations, programme and other teams in the office and Sub-Regional Office (SRO), and effectively liaises with the Resident Coordinator’s Office and relevant UN Agencies under UN Delivering as One in Tanzania to exchange information and ensure consistent service de

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administrative support services and effective and efficient functioning of the Country Office
  • Effective and efficient functioning of the Representative’s Office
  • Ensures provision of effective communications and administrative support to the office
  • Support to the administration and procurement needs of the Country Office
  • Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing

Required Skills and Experience

Education
 
  • Completion of Secondary education and Diploma in Business Administration or Public Administration required.
  • First University Degree in Business or Public Administration or Social Sciences desirable but not required.
 
Experience
 
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in administration in a large corporation or international organization, required.
  • Previous work experience with the UN a strong advantage.
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) and advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web based management systems.
  • UN Procurement certification level 1 and 2 a strong advantage.
  • Personal commitment to the mandate of UN Women

 

Language requirement:
 
  • High level written and oral proficiency in English  and Kiswhahili is required.
