Since 2001, the United Nations Development Programme has been responsible for the implementation of the European Union funded Programme “Partnership for the Future (PFF)”. UNDP-PFF aims at contributing to the peace- and confidence-building process in Cyprus through: cultural heritage preservation, urban infrastructure rehabilitation and community development,operational support to the Committee of Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP), as well as implementing bi-communal projects such as the new Nicosia waste water treatment plant.

The internship programme will help successful applicants to gain a greater understanding of UNDP’s confidence building work in Cyprus and communication policies and priorities. The selected intern shall work in the area of communications with a focus on civil society, sustainable development and the environment, and cultural heritage preservation. In so doing the successful candidate will acquire practical experience in various aspects of project management in an international work environment, the work of UNDP and UNDP-PFF in Cyprus.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under theoverall guidance of the Communications and Programme Officer, the intern is expected to perform the following tasks:

  • Media Monitoring: monitor traditional and online media from both communities for stories within specific areas of focus that mention UNDP-PFF in order to measure the results of our communications efforts and produce weekly media reports;
  • Regular maintenance and update of UNDP-PFF photo library and UNDP-PFF Flickr page;
  • Support content creation for the new  'UNDP in Cyprus' website (e.g. press releases, articles and web stories related to UNDP/PFF activities/events);
  • Logistical support to the organization of visibility/outreach and knowledge-sharing events;
  • Assist in the preparation of questionnaire and data collection for project evaluation/ dissemination and summary of the results'
  • Any other task as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Enrollment in a graduate-level degree programme in a communications related field. Only those students who will return to their studies upon completion of their internship assignments are eligible. (Letter of enrollment from school will be requested from the selected applicants)
  • Experience in writing for the web, planning, and project and events management is desirable.  
Language Requirements:
  • Written and spoken proficiency in English;
  • Fluency in Turkish and/or Greek is an asset.
