The HR Consultant reports to the Director of Human Resources, and is responsible for providing support to the Director and the Section through the administration and execution of a variety of activities and transactions. The HR Consultant will ensure the efficient flow of information and communication to and from the Human Resource Section. The Consultant will facilitate timely action and decision making, arrange and schedule meetings, manage the Director’s calendar, handle travel requests and maintain and organize filing materials for HR Section. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the Director’s calendar of activities, events and travels.  Prioritize and schedule requests for meetings;
  • Draft routine correspondence to respond to inquiries regarding relevant administrative and personnel matters and follow-up for timely action and/or response;
  • Assemble material and provide written and oral responses to users’ requests from within and outside the Organization by telephone or electronically. Coordinate extensively with other parts of the Organization and liaises frequently with internal team members of the HR Section. Ensure proper follow-up with administrative focal persons;
  • Undertake logistical administrative and financial arrangements, for meetings, events and workshops;
  • Facilitate the flow of information/communication and enhance this flow of information/ communication as needed;
  • Maintain the roster of the Director’s contacts for easy access and reference;
  • Maintain and organize up to date hard and electronic files for easy access and retrieval. Ensure safekeeping of confidential materials;
  • Manage protocol matters, receive high ranking officials, and answer calls/inquiries with tact and discretion;
  • Ensure quality and completeness/accuracy of documentation; 
  • Establish, organize and monitor files for persons on varied contractual modalities by contract type and review periodically for completeness in line with audit requirements;
  • Support the recruitment processes and assist with administrative matters when required.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Secondary education is required;
  • University Degree is an advantage but not required.

Experience:

  • 3- 5 years of administrative experience preferably in a large or international corporation or organization;
  • Experience in the use of computers applications and software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) and web based management systems;
  • Prior experience in the UN Common System is required;
  • ATLAS experience is also required. 

 Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Proficiency in another UN working language is desirable.

    National consultancy located in New York is open to candidates who are either US Permanent Residents, US Citizens or holders of a valid G4 visa at the time of their application and whose G4 visa has been acquired on account of their employment in the UN Systems based in New York.

    In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment.
