UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It provides strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.
The Intergovernmental Support Division is UN Women’s interface with intergovernmental bodies, including the Commission on the Status of Women, the Economic and Social Council, the General Assembly, the Executive Board of UN Women, as well as with other intergovernmental processes and events. Its functions are to:
- Support the smooth functioning of intergovernmental bodies, including through: overseeing reporting processes within UN Women and providing advice to, and sharing institutional knowledge with, Member States on intergovernmental procedures and working methods;
- Engage with Member States towards strengthening attention to gender perspectives in intergovernmental work, including through: gathering information, identifying challenges and creating opportunities for UN Women to help advance the global normative framework for gender equality;
- Drive the process of integration of normative frameworks into UN Women’s operational and coordination functions, for wider-UN action.

Summary of Key Functions:
- Support the Policy Adviser in managing UN-Women’s engagement with intergovernmental processes with a particular focus on sustainable development;
- Undertake research and analysis on gender perspectives in regard to assigned areas of work, in particular in relation to sustainable development;
- Organize panel discussions, side events, briefings and other alliance building activities;
- Contribute to the substantive servicing of intergovernmental bodies;
- Provide other support to the effective functioning of the Division, as required.
Support the Policy Adviser in managing UN-Women’s engagement with intergovernmental processes with a particular focus on sustainable development:
- Keep track of ongoing and planned intergovernmental processes and events, including informal meetings, and maintain schedule of UN Women involvement and activities;
- Cover intergovernmental meetings, discussions and negotiations, prepare minutes on deliberations, propose action points for UN Women and undertake follow up as directed.
- Keep track of national trends and policy approaches, academic and UN system work in regard to gender perspectives in areas such as climate change, natural disasters, and others, and synthesize findings and lessons learned;
- Draft substantive papers, background and briefing notes, talking points and key messages, and inputs to reports of the Secretary-General;
- Review draft work of others and provide comments and inputs towards strengthening gender perspectives.
Organize panel discussions, side events, briefings and other alliance building activities:
Prepare concept notes for UN Women events in conjunction with intergovernmental processes, and identify possible speakers.- Make all necessary organizational and logistical arrangements, including draft budgets;
- Work with UN Women Divisions and field offices, as applicable, to publicise events and attract participation and press coverage;
- Contribute to information dissemination, including through UN Women’s website and social media.
- Prepare in-session analytical summaries of deliberations, for internal and external use;
- Support negotiations, including by compiling proposals of Member States and providing technical inputs pertaining to gender perspectives of issues under consideration;
- Compile and regularly update gender equality results, including resolutions and other outcomes, of intergovernmental deliberations in the area of sustainable development.
- Contribute to regular updates of UN Women websites and Intranet sites;
- Participate in UN Women cross-organizational and thematic working groups to represent the Division;
- Contribute to UN Women reporting requirements to donors, and in the framework of the UN Women Strategic Plan and Strategic Framework .
Impact of Results:
The key results have a direct impact on the Entity’s relations with Member States and consequently UN Women’s role as a leading partner and advocate for gender equality and the empowerment of women. They ensure that UN-Women contributes to an effective and efficient reflection of gender equality perspectives in intergovernmental discussions and outcomes.

Qualifications et expériences requises
Education:- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in the field of gender studies, international development, law, political science, economics, public administration or other relevant/similar field.
Experience:
- At least 2 years of specialized professional experience in gender equality, law, public policy, international development or related field at the national and international level;
- Some experience working for the United Nations in support of intergovernmental processes is an advantage.
- Experience in the use of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and in handling web-based management systems.
Language:
- Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required;
- Working knowledge of at least one other UN official language is an asset.

In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment.
