Background
The United Nations Communications Group (UNCG)-Philippines endeavours to strategically communicate the collective UN story in support of the concept of “One UN.” The UNCG, through collaboration and coordination, aims to promote the impact of UN programmes in the areas of development, peace-building, and humanitarian assistance in the Philippines, in response to national needs and priorities, and support the implementation of activities in line with the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), the MDGs and the Post – 2015 development agenda.
- implement a communications and advocacy strategy to raise the public profile of UN in the Philippines and provide strategic communications and advocacy support for the UNDAF, the MDGs and the Post – 2015 development agenda, focusing on critical cross-cutting issues;
- provide leadership in advocacy and communication for the Philippine UN Country Team;
- identify new and creative ways to show how UN programmes are delivering results and promoting a coherent image of the UN;
- identify joint advocacy opportunities and provide communication support to initiatives that strengthen inter-agency cooperation;
- support the work of the Humanitarian Communications Group (HCG) in communicating the work of the UN in emergencies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of of the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, the UN Coordination Analyst and work in close coordination with the UN Communications Group (UNCG) Chair, the Advocacy and Communications Associate will carry out the following tasks:- Assist in implementing the UNCG annual workplan (AWP) by coordinating with relevant UNCG members and prepare reporting documents;
- Develop and implement the UN Story part of the UNCG AWP including designing the quarterly newsletter and;
- Arrange appropriate media interaction and engagement for the Resident Coordinator or his/her representative on UN-wide issues;
- Draft speeches, media briefers, presentations for the Resident Coordinator or his/her representative on UN-wide issues in coordination with the UNCG;
- Develop articles, populate, regularly update and manage the content of the One UN Website by coordinating with the UNCG members as well as with UNCO staff on external communications requirements of joint programmes and inter-agency groups;
- Populate and manage the UN Philippines social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Youtube) in close coordination with the UNCG members and with the UNCO staff;
- Develop, design and implement creative concepts for the contents of the UN Philippines website and social media accounts (e.g. develop infographics, short videos etc.);
- Promote traffic to both the One UN Website and the social network/s and provide regular traffic/analytics updates to the UNCG;
- Develop and implement the UN Philippines Social Media Strategy;
- Liaise with the UNCG Secretariat (UN Information Center) in arranging meetings, learning sessions and media interface for the UNCG members;
- Work closely with the Coordination Assistant in preparing requisitions and procurement requests for the rollout of the UNCG AWP;
- Attend and participate in the UN Communications Group and Humanitarian Communications Group (HCG) meetings;
- Contribute ideas and help in developing the Resident Coordinator’s Annual Report (RCAR);
- Assist in the implementation of the MY World and World We Want Philippines advocacy activities with the Youth Volunteer on the MDGs and post-2015;
- Provide other communications-related support to the UN Coordination Office.
Competencies
- Good understanding of the post-2015, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the ability to do media analyses;
- Excellent research, writing, and communications skills – verbal and written;
- Proficiency in English required, Tagalog would be an advantage;
- Proficient in the use of the Internet and PCs, including Microsoft Office and graphic software tools (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator);
- Knowledgeable in HTML website development;
- Proven ability to (i) work flexibly and independently with limited supervision in a multicultural team environment and deliver quality results against tight deadlines; (ii) multi-tasks in an organization transcending national boundaries and multiple time zones;
- Creative and has the ability to think out-of-the-box;
- With strong media network.
Required Skills and Experience
Education:- Undergraduate or Master’s degree in a related field (Development Studies, Development Communication, Journalism, etc.).
- Five years of relevant work experience within the Philippines with particular focus and experience in media, communications, advocacy and campaigning, including some administrative and finance;
- Previous experience in working for a national/development organization and/or media entities, particularly in the management of websites and social media platforms;
- Experience in video production and editing and managing press conferences and other media-related events;
- Previous working experience with a UN agency an asset.
- Fluency in the English and national language.
