Antecedentes
Under the general supervision of the Head of the UN Documentation and Training Centre for Southwest Asia and the Arab Region or her/his delegate, the incumbent will be responsible for providing Information Technology (IT) support services to the Centre, ensuring high quality of work, ensures accurate, timely and properly recorded/documented service delivery. The IT Assistant promotes a client, quality and results-oriented approach.
The IT Assistant works in close collaboration with all staff in OHCHR and other UN agencies staff to ensure consistent service delivery.
1. Provides Management of web pages, focusing on achievement of the following results:
· Performs SharePoint web application troubleshooting;
· Keeps the website operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting; maintaining; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs;
· Develops site content and graphics by coordinating with copywriters and graphic artists; designing images, icons, banners, audio enhancements, etc.;
· Establishes globular by registering with search engines;
· Tests the website and identify any technical problems;
· Add, deletes and edits the website pages;
· Upgrades site by updating content and graphics; monitoring performance and results; identifying and evaluating improvement options; introducing new technology; maintaining links;
· Provides information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends;
· Make a backup copy of Website;
· Accomplishes information systems and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
2. Ensures Desktop Administration and Configuration, focusing on achievement of the following results:
· Monitors all personal computers running the UN software delivery system to ensure that software distributions are being delivered correctly;
· Performs software distribution updates, scripting, testing and support;
· Keeps abreast of developments in information systems and technology in order to make recommendations to supervisors;
· Performs desktop troubleshooting;
· Provides technical advice to staff when necessary;
· Provides guidance and training to new/junior staff;
· Drafts documentation and reports;
· Performs other related duties as required.
3. Provides Server Operations and Administration, focusing on achievement of the following results:
- Installs, configures, tests and deploys server hardware and software, including Local Area Network, Operating Systems, Electronic mail, Linux, Lotus Notes, Database systems, Internet Web software, firewall, Domain Name Server (DNS), DHCP, and various security software;
- Performs administration, operation, technical support, and monitoring of server systems;
- Undertakes troubleshooting of server systems. If the problem persists, escalates to higher level in accordance with procedures;
- Assists in identifying the need for new systems or re-engineering of the existing systems;
- Responds to requests from user offices and assists in deploying/configuring systems so as to conform to infrastructure standards;
- Implements backups of servers following standard backup procedures;
- Maintains the documentation of server systems, pertinent to operations and system administration;
- Provides guidance and training to new/junior staff;
- Drafts documentation and reports;
· Performs other related duties as required.
4. Provides Network Administration and Security, focusing on achievement of the following results:
- Assists with the implementation of network projects in accordance with Mission requirements and applicable UN policies and standards;
- Assists with the review of network configuration to ensure maximum efficiency and optimal usage of resources;
- Installs, operates and maintains multi-user information security systems including firewalls, malware detection/prevention systems, intrusion detection/prevention, network access controls, proxy servers, VPN, encryption, URL and content filtering systems in accordance with organizational technology security standards;
- Supports the management of network backup and security enforcement policies;
- Assists other personnel and/or contractors assigned to the Network Administration Unit;
- Assists with the implementation of new and emerging technologies for voice, video, and data integration;
- Operates and maintains the various implemented Data Security projects with emphasis in network security, monitoring, resourcing, and other UN standard technologies;
- Ensures the proper administration of access control lists including rights and privileges; participates in the security incident response activities;
- Participates in planning, implementing, operating and maintaining security controls; performs regular vulnerability assessments of production systems to identify weaknesses to bring to the attention of supervisors;
- Participates in all network implementations;
- Assists with the drafting of documentation and reports;
· Performs other related duties as required.
5. Provides Service Installation and Support, focusing on achievement of the following results:
- Receives and logs problem calls or service requests in the automated tracking system with minimum delay;
- Attempts to resolve as many problem calls or service requests on initial contact;
- Performs tasks related to scheduled service requests, including equipment replacement, equipment installation/de-installation, software installation, LAN connection, returns to stock, site surveys, etc.;
- Designs a newsletter and publications of the center by using programs such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Diagnoses and resolves any hardware, software, or connectivity problem with minimum delay;
- Provides basic training to end-users on the use of standard systems and applications;
- Drafts end-user and/or technical documentation;
- Logs all actions in the automated tracking system, including site survey information, steps taken to resolve problem or to complete task, problems encountered, current status, etc.;
- Acts as problem escalation point for technical staff at lower levels;
- Escalates problems/tasks to the appropriate parties in accordance with established procedure;
- Detects problem patterns and recommends solutions;
- Provides training to junior technical staff;
- Occasionally supervises a team of technical staff for special projects;
· Performs other related duties as required

Education: High School Diploma or the equivalent. A bachelor’s degree is highly desirable .
Experience: 4 years of relevant administrative experience. Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
