UNDSS/ Syria seek to recruit dynamic professional as the National Stress Counselor under the Critical incident Stress Management Program for the UN Agencies in Syria. The main role of the National Stress Counselor will be to build a sustainable stress management system in the UN offices operating in the country, to provide regular & sustained stress consultation for UN personnel and their eligible dependents as part of UN stress management system for all the UN Offices in the country and to improve critical incident stress management preparedness of the UN security system in case of emergencies.

Devoirs et responsabilités

The Stress Counselor would be expected to perform the following key functions Under the administrative supervision of the UNDSS Chief Security Advisor:

  • To develop and implement a critical incident stress management plan for UN Offices in Syria; in coordination with the UNDSS Critical Incident Stress Management Unit (CISMU);
  • In order to establish the Critical Incident Stress Intervention Cells (CISCs), select peer helpers (including family focal points); organize peer helper training sessions (jointly with the UNDSS CISMU); and coordinate and follow up on all relevant activities;
  • To assess continuously and to monitor the determinants of stress and stress levels among UN staff and their dependents in Syria;
  • To implement the UNDSS CISMU Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) on critical incident stress;
  • To provide direct stress counseling services to UN staff and their dependents;
  • To provide trauma counseling for NGO staff when special requested;
  • To travel regularly to the North and East in order to conduct staff psychosocial needs assessments, and to implement preventative and mitigating stress management activities accordingly;
  • Advise UN management on stress mitigating strategies and activities;
  • To liaise with local mental health care providers in order to build a network of professionals ready to support UN staff and families in case of a disaster;
  • To conduct training sessions related to stress management and psychosocial support for UN staff;
  • On request conduct specific training sessions related to stress management and psychosocial support for NGO staff;
  • To provide regular written reports on performed activities to the UNDSS Syria Chief Security Adviser and CISMU UNDSS HQ.
  • The national stress counsellor should work under the technical supervision and guidance of the CISMU regional counsellor. He/she should send monthly updated report to CISMU headquarters;
  • Any other functions/duties assigned by the CSA.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  • Bachelor degree in psycho-educational studies, psychology, psychiatry, clinical social work or other clinical mental health professions.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 six years of professional experience in a related field

Language:

  • Fluency in spoken & written Arabic and English.

Computer Requirements:

  • Must be a user of the following software, i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.

Other Skills and Requirements:

  • Willing to work at night, weekends and holidays;
  • Ability to travel;
  • Physically fits.
