Background

Under the overall guidance of the Regional Representative  of UNODC and the direct supervision of the Senior Regional Legal Adviser and Head of Justice Section, the Programme Associate will be responsible for all administrative tasks and selected substantive assignments in connection with the Justice Section projects and work collaboratively with the UNODC ROSEN support team.

Additionally, s/he will provide administrative support to the other sections under the framework of the Sahel Project.

Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent will specifically handle the following tasks:

Supports formulation of programme strategies:

  • Collection, analysis and presentation of information for identification of areas for support and programme formulation/ implementation.
Provides effective support to management of the programme:
  • Support for substantive and financial project reporting;
  • Review of budgets and assist the project staff in determining appropriate budget lines where activities can be charged.
Provides administrative support to the Programme Unit:
  • Overall administrative arrangements, operations and logistics;
  • Preparation of correspondences, documents and publications;
  • Arranging appointments;
  • Planning international, regional and national meetings and missions as required;
  • Organising in-coming and out-going correspondence;
  • Organizing meetings in different countries, including planning participants’ travel and logistical arrangements, negotiating and securing meeting venues, preparing meeting documents as well as editing and finalising meeting and reports.
Supports knowledge building and knowledge sharing:
  • As required, assist in developing budgets for projects and strategies;
  • As required, assist in drafting assessment reports, evaluation reports and research documents.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
  • University degree in management, project management, public administration or any relevant area.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience in administrative work or other substantive areas is required;
  • Practical working experience with U.N. administration and financial management an asset;
  • Strong document drafting skills (letters, reports, etc.);
  • Good knowledge in using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
  • Profound knowledge of bookkeeping and budget development.
Languages:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French.
