Background

The UN Organizations in Zimbabwe seek to recruit suitably qualified nationals for the position of Local Security Assistant . The Security Management Team is responsible for the security of all UN personnel in the country.

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Security Advisor, the Local Security Assistant  ensures  optimal implementation and observance security and safety measures for national and international personnel as well assets  of UN system in Zimbabwe.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • LSA monitors the implementation of security policies and procedures and all matters pertaining to the safety and security of personnel, premises and assets;
  • Under the immediate supervision of the Security Adviser and his Deputy, the LSA provides assistance in preparing Security Risk Assessments (SRA), Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS), Minimum Operating Residential Security Standards (MORSS) and contingency plans;
  • Updating UN agencies staff list, Warden lists;
  • Updating crime statistic and security incidents records;
  • Maintaining effective and continuous liaison with Police,  national Law Enforcement Agencies ( LEA’);
  • Maintaining effective liaison with national judicial offices if such need arises;
  • Issuance UN ID cards and keep update ID card records;
  • Conducting residential survey  and inspection of UN premises countrywide and advise on shortcomings of security and safety measures;
  • Conducting security trainings for UN personnel in accordance with Training Calendar;
  • Conducting periodical Fire Drill and keeping Fire Fighting Plan updated;
  • Attending  to scene of traffic accidents and crime scene whenever UN personnel is involved;
  • Assist Security Adviser in preparation of Security Management Team presentation;
  • Conduct periodical field trips and inspections of UN sub offices, projects in the field;
  • Any other task related to the security and safety of UN personnel received from DSS Security Adviser or his Deputy.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:  

  •  University degree in Administration or related Police or Military studies.

Experience:  

  •  The post is opened only for Zimbabwean nationals with Police or Military background in an officer’s rank (Lieutenant Army    AirForce) or Inpector (Police) with proven minimum 10 year of service in national Armed Forces or Police;
  • Technical awareness, computer and radio communication in particular is key requirement. 

Language Requirements:  

  •  Proficiency in speaking and writing English;
  • Oral proficiency in any one local languages.
