Antecedentes

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, the UN WOMEN will lead and coordinate United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It will provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.

HeForShe is UN Women’s global campaign to engage men and boys as advocates and agents of change for the achievement of gender equality and women’s rights. The campaign encourages them to speak out and take action against inequalities faced by women and girls.

UN Women implements a public mobilization campaign in the context of the 20th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing.

Globally, the campaign started in May 2014 and is gradually building momentum into next 2015, the campaign is running under the title: “Empowering Women – Empowering Humanity:  Picture It!” and engages a wide range of constituencies on the Beijing Conference’s overall theme of women’s empowerment and gender equality. The campaign is punctuated by a large-scale celebration in March 2015 during the Commission on the Status of Women and culminate in a high-level event at the UN General Assembly in 2015. It will be positioned to inform and guide the post-2015 agenda as a forward-looking development blueprint which stresses the central importance of ensuring women’s rights, empowerment and gender equality.  

UN Women Kenya in partnership with the Ministry of Devolution and Planning- Gender Directorate launched HeforShe campaign and 16 days of activism on 26th November 2014 where His Excellency, the President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta officially committed and assumed the role of a champion for the UN Women’s campaign: HeforShe by declaring “I am HeForShe because Gender Equality is not only a woman’s issue; it is a human rights issue that requires my participation. I as the President of Kenya, I commit to take action against all forms of violence against women and girls”. The launch was conceived as a first step in a campaign roadmap elaborated by a local public relations and event consultant.

Unified under a newly developed visual brand, the campaign in Kenya will provide opportunities for a younger generation of activists as well as constituencies already invested in the process to become involved and will highly work with the media, social media, universities and a young group of advisors to help reach the target audience.

The Campaign   Manager (CM) has primary responsibility for creating and managing a multifaceted national HeForShe campaign that includes TV, radio, outdoor events, public relations social media and others to be defined with the aim to encourage men and boys engagement in advancing Gender Equality.

The CM will oversee all aspects of the campaign including revising the existing campaign strategy and work plan, implementation of the campaign strategy and work plan, hiring of public relations and events consultant, the coordination and implementation of the fundraising operations. The manager will also be responsible for creating and managing the campaign budget.

The CM will report to the UN Women Kenya Deputy Director and collaborates closely with the Ministry of Devolution and Planning in particular the Gender Directorate which leads the campaign, KCO senior management, Key area team leaders, communications, the UN WOMEN ESARO regional office. The CM oversees the implementation of the Campaign strategy and plan by the Public relations and event consultant to ensure on time and high impact delivery of the campaign components. This role requires a candidate comfortable driving strategic campaign development as well as managing tactical day to day campaign deliverables.

Deberes y responsabilidades

  • Take stock of the launch of the HeForShe Campaign and the 16 Days of Activism Campaign and based on the assessment;
  • Draw a campaign strategy and work plan  for eight months (February – September 2015) with monthly highlights following the global HeForShe campaign calendar;
  • Liaise with HQ to ensure alignment with the Global HeForShe Campaign approaches and identify how to adapt to Kenyan campaign, in consultation with KCO and the Government of Kenya;
  • Identify and propose HeforShe male ambassadors/role models across all society sectors and develop key messages;
  • Hire a Public Relations and events consultant;
  • Lead and coordinate the implementation of the HeForShe campaign in Kenya after approval by UN WOMEN and the Gender Directorate;
  • Collaborate   with   stakeholder   partners   on   coordination   of   campaign   activities 
  • amongst  partners;
  • Create campaign production schedules, including social media,  monitor activity and notify stakeholders of relevant outcomes and plans;
  • Contribute to creation of messages and productions  to be used in the media and outdoor events;
  • Monitoring and evaluation of the HeforShe Campaign;
  • Elaborate a final report on the implementation of the HeForShe campaign with lessons learned and conclusions.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education Requirement:

  • Masters degree in the field of Public relations, media relations, event management.

Experience:

  • At least 10 years of work experience in development issues;
  • At least 10 years working experience in gender mainstreaming especially in decentralized structures or local government.

Language Requirements:

  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
