The Strategic Partnership Division (SPD) is responsible for proactively driving the strategic positioning of UN Women so that the size, sources and predictability of its resources help the organization achieve its strategic goals. SPD is organized into three branches: Resource Mobilization, Civil Society, and Communications.

Under the direct supervision of the Chief, Communications & Advocacy, the Audio-Visual Specialist is responsible for the production, archiving and provision of video, audio and photo material on gender issues and UN Women’s work.

Summary of key functions:

• Undertakes and oversees UN Women in-house audio-visual productions and research;
• Manages partnership with UNTV for production of video content;
• Archives video and audio on UN Women’s Digital Asset Management system;
• Provides guidance and advice to UN Women HQ sections and field offices on audio-visual content;  
• Maintains and expands distribution channels for UN Women productions.

Undertakes and oversees UN Women in-house audio-visual productions and research, focusing on the following results:

• Arranges for, supervises and undertakes filming and editing of UN Women videos for multiple purposes and audiences, such as campaigns, digital outreach, intergovernmental meetings and events, resource mobilization etc.;
• Arranges for, supervises and/or undertakes filming and basic editing of short video messages of senior leadership; to that end, liaises with consultant video producers, as needed;
• Maintains and expands a roster of freelance video producers and photo researchers;
• Compiles b-roll material on UN Women priority issues;
• Responds to media requests for audio-visual material;
• Undertakes filming in programme countries as required.

Manages partnership with UNTV for production of video content, focusing on the following results:

• Manages the selection of topics for relevant video and audio productions in collaboration with UNTV producers, HQ sections and field offices;
• Facilitates and backstops logistics for field missions of UNTV producers;
• Manages pre- and post-production and provides inputs to final scripts;
• Ensures administrative arrangements for the productions are carried out in close collaboration with the Administrative Assistant, Communications & Advocacy Section.

Undertakes and oversees archiving of audio-visual material on UN Women’s Digital Asset Management system (DAMS):

• Archives audio-visual content (videos and audio) on UN Women’s Digital Asset Management system. Archiving includes assigning filenames, pulling technical information, determining permissions, writing descriptions and cataloguing content under appropriate categories;
• Tests system for searchability of items and to that end updates keywords and updates catalogues necessary;
• Tests native files to ensure functionality in DAMs before archiving. Troubleshoots and archives as necessary to meet latest audiovisual standards;
• Provides trainings on how to use DAMs to staff;
• Responds to audiovisual requests for material via the DAMs, as necessary.

Provides guidance and support to UN Women HQ sections and field offices, focusing on the following results:

• Provides strategic guidance and policies on UN Women’s audio-visual online presence; monitors YouTube and other online accounts for quality and branding;
• Develops and maintains guidelines outlining basic considerations on the How To of video productions; provides sample TORs for field video productions;
• Develops and maintains guidelines on ethical video and photo reporting;
• Supports and backstops staff-generated video content;
• Supports AV coverage from field visits of the Executive Director and other senior staff members.

Maintains and expands distribution channels for UN Women productions, focusing on the following results:

• Maintains UN Women YouTube Channels ensuring that they are regularly updated by new uploads of UN Women productions and related descriptions; updates AV content of UN Women maintained web sites;
• Explores new audio-visual distribution channels, including new online networks.

Impact of Results:

The key results have a significant impact on the visibility and reputation of UN Women as a leading source of knowledge and information in the areas of gender equality and women’s rights. The results have an impact on the success of the Strategic Partnerships, Advocacy, Civil Society, Communications and Resource Mobilization initiatives in supporting global advocacy and outreach campaigns, and on the performance of UN Women staff members, enabling access to and sharing of information and knowledge generated from within and outside UN Women and, thus helping UN Women achieve its strategic goals.

Functional Competencies:

• Good videography skills;

• Good knowledge of basic photo editing – familiarity with Photoshop and/or similar editing software – an important asset;

• Familiarity with gender issues an important asset;

Education:

• Master or equivalent degree in Communications, Film Photography or related field;
• A first-level university degree in combination with 2 additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

• Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in Audio-visual production, Digital Archiving, Production Management, Communications at the national or international level.

Language requirements:

• Fluency in English (written and oral);
• Knowledge of French and Spanish is an asset.
