Background

The African Disability Forum (ADF), formally launched in November 2014, is an inclusive, democratic, independent Pan-African membership organization of representative continental, sub-regional and national federations of organizations of persons with disabilities (DPOs).  The ADF builds upon existing structures, capacities and successes of its members which in turn undertake ADF work activities.  The ADF governance structure is light, with a small ADF office to be located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia focusing on communications and member organization capacity-building activities.=

Duties and Responsibilities

The ADF has received initial funding for its establishment from the UN Multi-Donor Trust Fund for Promoting the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD).  In order to assist the creation of the ADF office, initiate ADF communications activities and prepare for the first ADF General Assembly meeting to take place in 2015, an ADF Programme Associate is required.  The Programme Associate will work under the overall supervision of the ADF Interim Working Group (IWG).

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

                BA Degree in Social Sciences.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2-years work experience;
  • Work experience in disability-related field highly desirable;
  • Work experience in other countries desirable;
  • Experience organizing training or other events desirable;
  • Basic computer software skills;
  • Experience with website design/updating and facebook use desirable.

Language:

  • Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required;
  • Fluency in Amharic, both oral and written, is required;
  • Knowledge of French is desirable.
