Antecedentes
To assist the Premises Manager with the execution of the construction work for the Cafeteria structures at both the UN House and Annex premise located in Zambia, housing the UNICEF, UNDP, UNFFA and UNDSS Agencies.
The work will involve the management of construction works for new UN Cafeteria located in the UN compounds, in the absence of the principal architect by supervising the site, responding/copying with the contractor’s queries and selecting materials. Thereafter ensure that the principal architect is fully appraised verbally, and in writing, of the daily proceedings/works at the designated site.
Deberes y responsabilidades
Under the direct supervision of the United Nations Volunteer (UNV) Premises Project Manager, the intern will work closely with the Common Services team to undertake the following tasks:
- To supervise and monitor the civil works to be carried out at the designated site within the UN premises;
- Assist in ensuring quality assurance, monitoring and reporting the implementation of engineering and architectural project activities;
- To assist in monitoring and analyzing of the operating environment of civil works;
- To assist in supervising at least two construction sites together with the Premises Project Manager;
- To assist the Project Manager in ensuring that the Contractor adheres to the technical drawings and advice correction when these are deviated from;
- Assist the Project Manager in the process of selecting construction material, going to the specialized shops and reaching better solutions for the construction site;
- Making a daily report of the situation.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas
Education:
- Currently enrolled in the University of Civil Engineering or Architecture.
Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in quality control and certification of civil works is an asset.
Computer literacy:
- Proficiency in all MS Office and Auto CAD.
Language:
- Strong written and spoken English.
Conditions
- Interns are considered gratis personnel;
- Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP;
- The costs associated must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her arrangements for travel, accommodation, visa, etc.;
- UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
- Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;
- The intern must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan;
- Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
- Only those students who will return to their studies upon completion of their internship assignments are eligible.
