This position is located in the Gulf Liaison Office in Abu Dhabi, Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA-GLO) . The incumbent reports to the Communication and Information Manager (Outreach Manager). Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Outreach Manager, the Communications Associate supports the formulation and implementation of the commun ications and advocacy strategies to increase the standing and awareness of OCHA with partners the media and the public, mainly by the effective usage of Arab Humanitarian Portal. The Communicat ions Assoc iate promotes a client-oriented approach in OCHA.

 

The Communication Associate works in close collaboration with the supervisor , Programme and Operations teams in the OCHA-GLO , staff of other  UN Agencies, OCHA HQs staff and the Regional Communications , Government officials , media, multilateral and bilateral donors and civil society.

Devoirs et responsabilités

  1. Supports the formulation and implementation of OCHA-GLO communications and advocacy strategies , supports business development focusing on achievement of the following results:

 

  • Provision of inputs and information for elaboration of OCHA-GLO communication strategy based on the corporate communications strategy
  • Support to increased awareness of OCHA's mandate and goals through dissemination  of information , organizat ion of public events
  • In coordination with supervisor development and preparation of materials for marketing and awareness-raising including briefing materials and press releases.
  • Organization of publicity , advocacy , knowledge-sharing events and promotional opportunities . Provision of logistics support to the events.
  • Review of reference materials, identificat ion of reference materials for retention. Maintenance of information database and photo library.
  • Research and retrieval of data from internal and external sources.
  • Organization  and implementation  of joint  UN information  campaigns  (World Humanitarian Day, UN Day, etc).

 

2.   Ensures  implementation  of the  OCHA-GLO  publications  policy focusing  on the achievement of the  following results:

 

  • During major events organized by OCHA-GLO and in close collaboration with the supervisor , coordinate the production and dissemination of information packages, press releases,

3.   Ensures maintenance of Arab Humanitarian Portal website focusing on achievement of the following results:

o          Manage the daily updating of Arab Humanitarian Portal including short translation from English to Arabic and vice versa;

o          Coordinate coverage in consultation with staff based in Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia ;

o          Work with the communication  and information management  manager to ensure timely

coverage of emergencies and disasters with relevant and reliable humanitarian information with special focus on the Arabic publication;

o          Manage contents and services for counties and themes the Arab  Humanitarian Portal designed for.

o          Perform  editorial  and  classification  functions  on  information  published  on  the  Arab

humanitarian Portal to ensure comprehensiveness, timeliness, reliability, relevance and usefulness of a range of content, including reports, maps, data, info-graphic, multimedia content and links;

  • Contribute to ongoing improvements and development of the website , features , services, tools, and usability;

4.   Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and management focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • With the information management manager, support OCHA-GLO staff in identification, documenting and drafting of best practices and lessons learned.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education :Secondary education.  University degree desirable , but it is not a requirement

Experience: 5 years of relevant experience at the national level in providing communication packages to promote the activities of international organization . Experience in the usage of computers , web istes, social media and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.).

Language requirement For this position fluency in Arabic and English (both oral and written) is required.
