Background

The Representation Office in Tokyo plays a critical role in UNDP’s relations with Japan. UNDP and Japan have developed an important partnership over the past years, involving the Japanese Government, civil society, the private sector, the academic community and other organizations. UNDP-Japan cooperation covers policy dialogue, exchange of views/information and cooperation at the field-level, co-financing of project, joint conferences and seminars, joint publicity activities and others. To enable UNDP to position itself strategically vis-à-vis the full range of Japanese partners and advocate the 2030 Agenda/Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by  promoting engagement of a wide range of stakeholders in the global effort to achieve the goals, public relations are key functions of UNDP Representation Office in Tokyo. In this context, the PR consultant is expected to ensure effective and efficient support to public relations and communications activities. He or she will work under the overall supervision by the Public Affairs Assistant. The consultant works in collaboration with other stakeholders, PR teams in UNDP HQ and UN organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide daily administrative assistance to PR unit;
  • Create, maintain and update the contact database and the list of stakeholders;
  • Arrange distribution of UNDP communications materials as required;
  • Organize PR events and support to prepare for TICAD VI;
  • Support to write, translate, edit and manage publications, website and social media articles; and
  • Other duties as required by UNDP Tokyo PR unit.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Completion in junior college education.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience in PR and administrative work and related fields;
  • Experience in organizing events will be desirable;
  • Experience in working with UN/Governments/NGOs/Development organizations will be an added advantage;
  • Basic IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Adobe Acrobat;
  • Writing and website/social media management skills will be desirable.

Language:

  • Fluency in spoken and written Japanese and basic knowledge in English
