The Volunteer Knowledge and Innovation Section (VKIS) is responsible for advancing the understanding of the value, and strengthen the contribution, of volunteerism to sustainable development as well as to enhance UNV’s proactive capacity to mainstream volunteerism into peace and development initiatives through:

  • Strengthening the knowledge base on volunteerism through deepening research, measurement and convening volunteer involving organizations (VIOs) and civil society organizations (CSOs), as a means to convert this knowledge into policy and practice thereby contribution to an enabling environment for volunteerism;
  • Leading and promoting the production of the State of the World’s Volunteerism Report as a flagship report for showcasing the contribution of volunteerism to peace and development;
  • Building the capacity of UN Volunteers and UNV personnel to optimize the impact of volunteers and volunteerism;
  • Fostering innovation in UNV’s contribution to volunteerism, drawing upon good practices and concrete results achieved in the field and stimulating ideas for new approaches to volunteerism emerging from within and beyond UNV;
  • Positioning volunteerism as a credible solution for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Reporting to the Programme Manager (Online Volunteering), the Programme Specialist is responsible for delivering services on volunteering opportunities and volunteer mobilization to users (visitors, organizations --UN agencies, NGOs--, governments and volunteers) of the UNV Online Volunteering service. The Programme Specialist oversees, plans and monitors operations, and supervises and guides the Online Volunteering service delivery team.

Devoirs et responsabilités

Manage the Online Volunteering service operations:

  • Provide user support through establishing an interface to address issues and gather information about activity of users;
  • Guide and support the Online Volunteering service delivery staff in screening organizations and opportunities, and monitoring activities;
  • Define new functionalities of the service technology tools, building on lessons learnt to improve system performance and effectiveness, and in coordination with the Information and Communication Technology Section (ICTS);
  • Oversee regular update of the Online Volunteering service website;
  • Gather, analyze, develop and validate web content, in close coordination with the Communications Section (CS), ensuring relevance, consistency and accuracy of the materials;
  • Lead the Annual Award campaign mobilizing participants for a successful event;
  • Increase online volunteering awareness of relevant potential users;
  • Analyze data, monitor results and report on trends;
  • Monitor the Online Volunteering service delivery team’s operations, ensuring timely delivery of services;
  • Manage the staff of the team including supervision, performance assessment and capacity development.

Ensure integration of Online Volunteering into UNV’s programme:

  • Provide inputs into corporate documents and policy papers (EB Report, corporate plan, project documents, etc.) to reflect online volunteering contribution to the organization’s results;
  • Promote and leverage the contributions of online volunteering within other UNV programme activities;
  • Enrich UNV’s added value of services to partners and clients by providing relevant information and technical assistance related to available online volunteering services;
  • Develop toolkits for engaging new and potential Online Volunteering service users;
  • Provide relevant online volunteering statistics.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  • Master's degree in social sciences, management, development or international affairs.

Experience:

  • 5 years of relevant experience in volunteer management;
  • Experience in managing web-based management systems and in working remotely is required;
  • Previous experience with an international organization is an asset;
  • Field experience in developing countries is an asset.

Language:

  • Fluency in English;
  • Working knowledge of French or Spanish.
