Under the guidance of the Communications Analyst, the Communications Assistant provides inputs to the design, management and implementation of the Country Office communications and publication strategies which are geared to influence the development agenda, promote public and media outreach and mobilize political and financial support for UNDP. 

The Communications Assistant works in close collaboration with the Programme and Operations teams, staff of other UN Agencies, UNDP HQs staff (Communications Office), RBEC based Communications team and Government officials, international and local media, subject matter experts, multi-lateral and bi-lateral donors and civil society ensuring successful UNDP communication strategy implementation.

Internal and external strategies for communications and outreach planned and designed

  • Preparation and conduct of communications needs assessments for CO (projects, clusters, country programme)
  • Drafting of CO Programme Communications strategy based on the corporate communications strategy and the CO programme needs.
  • Analysis of requirements and proposals on ways to integrate advocacy and communication strategies into all aspects of UNDP’s development programme during programme formulations.

·       Preparation and advice for communications plans and messages, civic education and community awareness where appropriate to support projects.

·       Monitors and alerts the senior management on media events and reflections relevant to UNDP Programme

CO Programme Communications strategy and plan implemented

  • Implementation of the CO Programme Communications strategy and plan, based on the corporate communications policy.
  • Identification and preparation of programme/projects storylines for publications.
  • Initiate/organize other media relevant events where UNDP programme activities and expertise can be illustrated and promoted, including targeted visits/exposure to project sites and results.
  • Closely cooperate with Programme Unit in order to gather and write human interest and news stories of UNDP projects, products and initiatives, as well as to prepare Programme publications.
  • Coordination and management of CO communications publication activities as related to CO Programme.
  • Contact with printers and other suppliers to ensure production and ensure publications dissemination.

UNDP web site, intranet, social media  and other media designed and maintained

 

  • Supervision of the design and management of the maintenance of the office web sites based on corporate requirements, in cooperation with the ICT staff.

      ·          Preparation of the content for the web sites to ensure consistency of the materials.

      ·          Initiate and organize social media based communication and events.

      ·          Production of regular newsletter/radio program/podcast for UNDP activities in the country.

  • Organisation of UNDP Progamme related events, press conferences.

Reporting Structure

The Communications Assistant will report to Assistant Resident Representative (Programme).

 

Performance Indicators for Evaluation of Results

  1. Project/cluster/programme communications strategies prepared and implemented in timely fashion.
  2. Communications messages for key projects and initiatives developed and shared; # of human interest and news stories of UNDP projects, products and initiatives; # of projects storylines for publications and # of publication activities related to CO Programme
  3. CO Web site office maintained in line with corporate standards; # of postings and visits at social media based events; newsletter/radio program/podcast regularly produced.

 

 

 

 

 

Compétences

·       Minimum of 5 years experience in communication /information/journalism field in the public or private sector or international organizations.

  • Ability to implement new systems and affect staff behavioral/ attitudinal change

·       Knowledge of UN activities, experience of working with international organizations, experience in similar settings, i.e. international projects, a degree in English or from an English speaking university would be an asset

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

 

University degree in journalism, public relations, international relations, social sciences or in other relevant disciplines

 

Experience:

 

Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience (SC-5)

Language requirements:

Fluent written and spoken English and Turkish

Computer skills:

Full computer literacy, including Web Design Programming, Power Point, Excel, and Photoshop
