Background

The 2016-2020 Zimbabwe United Nations Development Assistance Framework (Zundaf) is the United Nations (UN) strategic programme framework to support national development priorities as informed by the 2013-2018 Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim Asset) and to advance on the achievements of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as other international commitments, norms and standards.

The Zundaf allows all members of the UN country Team to deliver together through one nationally-owned strategy that draws on the full range of UN expertise while supporting an integrated approach to achieving development results in a coherent manner. The Zundaf elaboration process was jointly led by the Government of Zimbabwe and the UN Country Team with the participation of development partners, civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, and international financial institutions, ensuring national ownership and inclusiveness throughout the process.

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that supports sustainable human development globally through the promotion of volunteerism, including the mobilization of volunteers. In line with is new strategic Framework (2014 – 2017), it aims to enhance its support to the UN Country team in achieving the Zundaf priority areas and outcomes, both through the fielding of high quality and well supported UN Volunteers as well as programmes that systematically integrate volunteerism to improve development results.

This will be achieved through the following:

  • Creating a database of prospective professionals with varying skill sets, experience and qualification in the areas of Zundaf result areas listed below;
  • Provide UN agencies in Zimbabwe with National UN Volunteer within 14days of request from the created database;
  • Set up written test and interview to periodically authenticate rostered candidates.

Duties and Responsibilities

The UN Volunteer Programme, seeks to establish a database of qualified, skilled and experienced individuals for National UN Volunteer opportunity in support of the implementations of the new Zundaf 2016 – 2020 programmes in the following key result areas:

  • Food and Nutrition security;
  • Gender equality;
  • Hiv & Aids;
  • Poverty reduction and value addition;
  • Public administration and governance;
  • Social services and protection.

Please note that this Call for expression of interest is not a guarantee for an offer of a National UN Volunteer position with any of the UN entities in Zimbabwe. Applicants would be notified as at when their profile fits a vacant position with any of the UN agencies.

UNV reserves the right to reject expression of interest submitted after the deadline indicated above.

This Call for Expression of Interest is open to only citizens of Zimbabwe, who believe they have experience, skills and qualifications in the listed Zundaf result areas mentioned under part (B) of this Call for expression of interest.

Selection Criteria for inclusion in the Database

This Invitation for expression of interest aims to compile a database of prospective individual with demonstrable technical and financial capabilities in one or more of the capacity areas mentioned above. The prequalified individuals that make part of the database will be invited to attend stages of interviews for identified positions that match their profile, which may result in an offer of a contract as a National UN Volunteer to be hosted by requesting agency.

 Criteria selection to be taken into consideration during the expression of interest evaluation:

  • Professionals of Zimbabwean nationality only. To include verifiable national ID in accordance with Zimbabwe regulation;
  • Include cover/motivation letter in not more than 500 words that demonstrates why you should be selected;
  • Explicit curriculum vitae with detailed work history that clearly demonstrates competencies in Zundaf result areas;
  • Provide contacts of organizations with which you have had relevant substantive work experience and list of significant achievement in the same organization;
  • Copies of notarized educational qualifications will be required from selected candidates;
  • Experience through Volunteerism, Internship and other professional work;
  • Two to three (2-3) Letters of reference or recommendations of good performance from previous and current employers will be required from selected candidates.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

University degree, Masters degree, and/or PhD in the thematic areas below:

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of direct or supportive work experience in the thematic areas below:

  • Food and nutrition security;
  • Gender equality;
  • Hiv & Aids;
  • Poverty reduction and value addition;
  • Public administration and governance;
  • Social services and protection.

Language:

  • Fluent in English.
