Background

The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) leads and supports the organization in cultivating, building and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances that are essential for advancing and successfully achieving the mission of UNDP. Within BERA, the Communications Group leads and manages external communications through strategy, media, digital communications, marketing, branding and global storytelling. The Digital & Online team within the Communications Group is responsible for implementing a comprehensive digital strategy, including UNDP’s multi-lingual corporate web site in three languages (English, French, Spanish) and Country Office sites and partner sites; and all aspects of digital media channels with cutting-edge multi-media and social media approaches, products, services, and platforms, including increased attention to mobile platforms.

The Web/UX Designer is part of the Digital & Online Communications team. Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Team Manager, he/she will contribute to the advancement of UNDP’s global network of websites by creating and redesigning the visual, UX and IA aspects of UNDP’s web properties.

He/she will work with business managers, content specialists and technologists to iteratively improve the UX of existing websites, as well as launch new web products.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Iteratively optimize the navigational systems and templates of UNDP’s external websites
  • Iteratively create and refine visual elements on UNDP’s external websites to optimize donor conversion
  • Revamp the visual design and experience of priority sections of the global site
  • Revamp the visual design and experience of major, critical landing pages on the global site
  • Design navigational systems and templates for UNDP’s new microsites
  • Work with digital editors and writers to design new templates and UX for engaging storytelling

Expected Outputs and Deliverables:

  • Propose new UX for 2 priority sections of the global site (English, Spanish, French versions) to be completed 6 weeks after contract signing;
  • Work with developers to implement new UX for 2 priority sections of the global site (English, Spanish, French versions) completed 10 weeks after contract signing;
  • Propose new templates and UX for engaging storytelling completed 11 weeks after contract signing;
  • Work with developers to implement new templates and UX for engaging storytelling completed 13 weeks after contract signing;
  • Propose navigational and template revisions to UNDP’s global site (English, Spanish, French versions) completed 15 weeks after contract signing;
  • Work with developers to implement navigational and template revisions to UNDP’s global site completed 17 weeks after contract signing;
  • Review UNDP’s various websites to identify opportunities for design adjustments and enhancements which will improve donor conversions;
  • Propose new navigational systems, designs and templates for microsites completed 20 weeks after contract signing;
  • Work with developers to implement new navigational systems, designs and templates for microsites completed 24 weeks after contract signing;

Web and UX Design

  • Ability to conceptualize and create visually attractive and immersive websites for both desktop and mobile devices
  • Possess a working knowledge of web technologies which informs design ideas that can be developed

  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS is an asset

Required Skills and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in design, fine arts or related fields.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in digital/interactive design
  • Excellent portfolio of complex web/UX design
  • Skills in IA (e.g. site mapping, gap analysis, IA design strategy, wire-framing)
  • Ability to collaborate with technologists, editors, writers, researchers and multimedia designers is preferred
  • Highly proficient using Adobe CC Suite as well as wireframing and prototyping tools
  • Knowledge of standards for web accessibility
  • Working in a social mission-driven organization is an asset

Languages Required

  • Good written and spoken English. Working knowledge of Spanish or French is an asset.

Evaluation
Shortlisted candidates will be rated according to the following criteria:

  • Strong portfolio of web/UX design 35%
  • Demonstrated experience in information architecture 30%
  • Demonstrated experience as a web designer working on teams of business managers, writers, editors and developers 25%
  • Demonstrated experience in a social mission-drive organization 10%
  • TOTAL 100%

NB: Only candidates obtaining a minimum of 70% in the Technical Evaluation would be considered for the Financial Evaluation.

Cumulative Analysis will be used in determining the best candidate for this assignment. When using this weighted scoring method, the award of the contract is made to the individual consultant whose offer has been evaluated and determined as responsive/compliant/acceptable, and having received the highest score out of a pre-determined set of weighted technical and financial criteria:

Technical Criteria weight: 70%
Financial Criteria weight: 30%
