Background

Following the approval of Cabinet, the Bahrain’s Sustainable Energy Unit (SEU) was established in November 2014 by way of a formal agreement between the Minister of Energy and the UNDP.

The key objectives of the unit is to develop a cohesive and sustainable energy policy and to promote Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Conservation in the country. The unit will also work towards bridging the legal, institutional, and capacity gaps in order for the Bahrain energy sector to meet the future challenges.

SEU is the entity mandated to lead and promote energy efficiency practices, transfer and diffuse renewable energy technologies and draft related policies and regulatory frameworks in close coordination with stakeholders and partners in the Kingdom of Bahrain. SEU is currently developing the National Energy Efficiency Energy Action Plan (NEEAP) and the National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP) in accordance with the guidelines of the League of Arab States, with articulated targets that will eventually be the base for developing the National Energy Policy.

SEU is seeking for a qualified solar engineer to provide expert services to SEU and the concerned stakeholders related to the design and installation of various decentralized solar photovoltaic applications.

Duties and Responsibilities

The expert will support SEU in preparing feasibility studies, conceptual design and project tender documents for installation of various decentralized solar photovoltaic projects such as:

  • Solar powered street lighting;
  • Solar PV for an office building and parking lot;
  • Building integrated PV for commercial building;
  • Solar PV for industrial site (office building, industrial facilities, parking lot).

The expert shall undertake energy surveys/site inspections, collate information, and give a cost estimate and visits the concerned local stakeholders as appropriate and preparing a comprehensive “Request for Proposal” document to take the matter forward in compliance with the applicable provisions of the Bahrain Tender Law. The expert is required to study any available feasibility study, review the design concept and scope of work submitted by other contractors (if any). The expert is also required to carry out the bid analysis and recommendation of award to the successful bidder.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • University degree in Renewable Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering;
  • Postgraduate degree in a related field would be considered an asset.

Experience:

  • At least 7 years of related work experience in the field of Solar Photovoltaic;
  • Solid knowledge (demonstrated by sound professional experience records) about state-of-the-art approaches and best international and domestic practices on practical applications of various solar photovoltaic technologies and designs;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developing small and medium scale renewable energy projects.

Language requirement:

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English;
  • Knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
