Background

The JPO Service Centre (JPOSC) administers programmes whose overall goal is to provide young professionals the opportunity to gain experience in the field of international development cooperation and management, and as such to build capacities for the global development sector, while providing UNDP and other UN Organizations with young talent with promising professional development.

As of January 2017, the JPO Service Centre administers 251 young talents from the Junior Professional Officer (JPO) and the Special Assistant to the UN Resident Coordinator (SARC) programmes, from 23 nationalities, working in 65 different countries with 13 different UN organisations, and funded by 16 partner countries.

Under the authority of the Junior Professional Officer Service Centre (JPOSC) Manager and the supervision of the above-mentioned staff member, the intern will contribute to the development and the maintenance of client-oriented services, and ensure that the JPO Service Centre follows a model of excellence.

Training Components and Learning Elements

As a full member of the JPOSC team, the intern will:

  • Participate in in-house training opportunities as applicable
  • Learn the structure, mechanisms, policies and practice areas of UNDP
  • Participate in dedicated trainings and UNDP online learning tools
  • Strengthen his/her effective writing skills
  • Participate in working groups    

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will work within the External Relations and Partnership Unit and contribute to the following tasks:

  • Develop communication tools targeting the various stakeholders to the JPO and SARC Programme
  • Assist in analysing and compiling the results of a series of surveys targeting various stakeholders to assess the quality and impact of the JPO Programmes across the UN
  • Liaise with designers to develop public relations materials
  • Interview current and former Junior Professional Officers to publish online stories
  • Assist in updating the JPOSC website
  • Assist in updating the JPO and SARC Database (Microsoft Access)
  • Provide support to the Mentoring Programmes
  • Outreach to former JPOs and members of the JPO Alumni Association (JAA) (yearly recruitment campaign)
  • Research relevant content to post on JPOSC’s social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn)
  • Grant access to our closed groups for JPOs and SARCs on several social networks
  • Provide support in data analysis and statistics (Excel)
  • Support to any ad hoc activities related to the JPO and SARC Programmes

Required Skills and Experience

Qualifications

In order to be considered eligible for the UNDP JPOSC Internship Programme, you would need to meet one of the following requirements:

  • You are currently enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
  • You are currently enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
  • You have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) (if selected, you must start the internship within one-year of graduation).

IT skills

  • Basic knowledge of desktop publishing and graphic design software is an asset (e.g. Microsoft Publisher, Photoshop, Piktochart).

Language skills:

  • Fluency in English is required. Good working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an asset.

Residency

  • Please note that you will have secure your travel visa and residency status in Denmark prior to taking up your internship. The JPOSC is unfortunately unable to offer you support in obtaining these documents.

Conditions of Internship

  • Applicants must complete the online form and upload a recent CV/resume
  • Additional information regarding the UNDP Internship Programme may be obtained at http://www.undp.org/internships;
  • UNDP does not pay for internships. The costs associated with the latter must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation, etc.

Subsequent Employment:

  • The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.

Shortlisted Applicants will be required to submit prior to the interview the following documents:

  • Official letter from the University confirming enrollment in or completion within 12 months of a graduate-level degree programme;
  • Proof of medical insurance valid for the duration of the internship in Denmark.
