Background

The UNDP development agenda in Bosnia and Herzegovina focuses around 4 strategic sectors, which act as an umbrella for UNDP activities and initiatives: Social Inclusion and Democratic Governance, Energy and Environment, Human Security and Justice and Rural and Regional Development.

The Rural and Regional Development (RRD) Sector implements projects geared towards decreasing economic, social and territorial disparities through coordinated approach by national and subnational actors, with key goals of stimulating good governance and economic activity, as well as promoting social inclusion at the local level. All interventions are realised in close collaboration with relevant government stakeholders, other UN agencies, multi-lateral and bi-lateral donors, private sector and civil society.

Since strategic positioning and communications are vital for achieving UNDP objectives and resource mobilization it is important to position the UNDP as a valid and credible promoter and partner of development in BiH. The focus of this position will be on providing assistance in communications of projects within  UNDP BiH RRD Sector. Within this framework, there are several strategic activity areas: participation in organizing events, maintaining media clipping for UNDP BiH RRD Sector, participates in social media content for UNDP communications channels, follow-up with media, hands-on and proactive support for communications tasks and any other related communications activities

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the UNDP RRD Sector Communications Officer, Intern will have an opportunity to perform an array of duties that support communications area. These tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Assistance in the organization of press conferences, workshops and other events;
  • Assistance in maintaining and updating UNDP in BiH social media pages and bilingual website ba.undp.org related to Rural and Regional Development Sector;
  • Preparation of meeting notes, draft reports; transcription of audio video materials;
  • Assistance in editing news releases, media advisories;
  • Assistance in researching, collecting and preparing relevant data;
  • Assistance in monitoring and press clipping of print and online media; update of media lists;
  • Other tasks as assigned by RRD Sector Communications Officer.

The internship programme offers unique learning opportunities for interns, exposing them to the work of the United Nations at country level, and enriching their educational experience through practical work in an international organization.

Required Skills and Experience


Education:

  •  University degree (or final year of study), preferably in the areas of Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English language, Literature, Marketing/Economics;
  • Study at Master’s degree level is an asset.

Experience: 

  • Experience /skills in managing website content and social media;
  • Experience / skills in writing and editing communication materials and/or publication;
  • Experience in the use of computers and office suites.

Language Requirements: 

  • Native Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian speaker;
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required.

Short-listed candidates will be asked to provide subsequent documentation:

  • Duly completed UNDP internship application form;
  • Letter from his/her university confirming current enrollment and graduation date;
  • Letter of endorsement from a senior faculty member who has directly supervised the student in the recent past and who is fully acquainted with the student's performance.

In addition to the above listed documentation, the successful candidate will be asked to provide, prior to commencing work, proof of medical insurance valid for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Applications not in accordance with the mandatory requirements will NOT be considered.

Terms and conditions:

UNDP Internship is a NON-PAID and a minimum of one month of commitment on behalf of the applicants is required, with longer commitment considered desirable. In return, UNDP commits to assign at least 1 staff member to act as a mentor to the intern and to ensure that interns are exposed to meaningful and adequately challenging professional tasks.
