Background

UNDP’s Nordic Representation Office is located in Copenhagen, with satellite offices in Stockholm, Oslo and Helsinki.  The office covers Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland. Together we work to increase awareness of UNDP’s work in these countries. The office in Stockholm has four employees, and we are now looking for an intern to join our team in the fall semester of 2017.

In September of 2015 the Global Goals for Sustainable Development were adopted by 197 UN member states. UNDP Sweden is currently rolling out an extensive communications project which seeks to promote and increase public awareness about the Global Goals in Sweden. Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Communications Officer the intern will be expected to provide support to the communications efforts of the office, as well assist in day-to-day administrative work.

 Tasks will include:

  • Develop and publish communications material through our various channels.
  • Keep our websites up to date.
  • Update and develop our social media channels.
  • Write and translate articles (Swedish to English and vice versa).
  • Assist and coordinate the work of UNDP Sweden’s Global Goals Advocates
  • Assist in planning and conducting of public events such as conferences, seminars and launches.
  • Monitor and analyse events within the area of global development, focusing on the Global Goals in particular.
  • Do research and help prepare briefs for seminars, meetings and visits.
  • Perform administrative support.

  • Excellent communications skills in English and Swedish
  • Experience in performing administrative tasks, analysis and documentation work.
  • Strong interest in, and knowledge of, global development and the work of international organisations.
  • Strong social media skills; knowledge of web publication tools and photo editing tools is an advantage.
  • Team player; works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of the UN/UNDP and commitment to UN mission and UNDP mandate is an advantage.

Required Skills and Experience

Experience:

  • Relevant knowledge and experience within communication, administration and global development.


Education:

  • Master’s programme or graduate-level degree programme in a development-related and/or communications related field such as international relations, political sciences, journalism, communication, etc.

Languages:

  • Fluency in oral and written Swedish and English is required.

Eligibility:

Applications to the UNDP Internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

General conditions:

Interns are considered gratis personnel and are not financially remunerated by UNDP. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, and accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of:

  • The nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or
  • The intern, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence through private sources.

UNDP accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to personal effects that may occur during the internship.

The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship. Should an offer of employment be envisaged, a 3-month break, from the end of the internship, must be respected. Interns cannot apply for posts during the period of internship.

  • Interns are considered gratis personnel. They are not staff members;
  • Interns may not be sought or accepted as substitutes for staff to be recruited against authorized posts;
  • Interns may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
