Background

The UN Women Security Services Section reports to the UN Women Executive Director through the Division of Management and Administration. The section is responsible for all aspects of security throughout the organisation. This short-term position is located within the UN Women office of the Security Services Section, with the ‘Security Mainstreaming’ Consultant reporting directly to the UN Women Security Adviser. The role will be completed both remotely and from the UN Women HQ. 

Duties and Responsibilities

In line with the approved UN Women Security Services Section Annual Work Plan (AWP); the Security Mainstreaming Evaluation Consultant, will evaluate the UN Women ‘Security Mainstreaming’ process, its associated products, communication strategy, and educational roll-out. The consultant will identify good practice, areas for improvement and provide recommendations during the final evaluation briefing and within the provided evaluation report.  

Deliverables: The Consultant will evaluate the Security Mainstreaming process; its products, communication strategy and educational procedure. This will be completed through examination of the product, interaction with all appropriate units, divisions and sections internally, utilizing available mediums, completing the below:

  1. Conduct a thorough evaluation of the UN Women Security Mainstreaming process;
  2. Through the evaluation, identify and communicate if applicable current best practice;
  3. Through the evaluation, identify and communicate areas for development within the process;
  4. Provide recommendations to improve the current Security Mainstreaming process, its products, communication strategy and educational practice;
  5. Provide to the Security Services Section, periodic update briefings and a final consultant briefing on the findings and recommendations;
  6. Complete and submit a comprehensive written report, outlining the evaluation deliverables.

Ability to identify issues, analyze and develop measures to resolve obstacles that may impede the communication of corporate strategies. The ability to conduct data collection using various mediums, apply judgment in the context of prioritization, plan work and manage conflicting priorities. Shows pride in work and achievements, just persistence and overcomes challenges.  

Communication: Possesses an array of good communication skills, spoken, written and visual, including the ability to draft/edit in a clear concise style.

Planning and organizing: Ability to plan and organize work to meet imposed deadlines, conflicting priorities, changes in focus; working under pressure, using resources and time efficiently to ensure the completion of deliverables. Must demonstrate the ability to act independently whilst delivering with limited managerial oversight. 

Required Skills and Experience

Advanced University Degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) with a focus on business administration, organisational operations. A knowledge of the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) and/or international relations together with associated training and education, particularly within the UNSMS would be an asset.

A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in monitoring, research and evaluation, with an appreciation for United Nations management, administration and operations.

For the post advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of other UN official languages is an advantage.
