Background

The HR Intern’s primary assignment will be to support the Human Resources Management / Business Partners team as they work with UNDP’s Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) to develop a handbook / toolkit to be used for new comers in the BPPS, with the objective to welcoming and integrating a new member within the team as soon as possible. It is considered as a vital process contributing to smooth the new comers challenges related to a new assignment, relocation to New York, new office, etc.
The customization of such toolkit as a comprehensive document is expected to:

  • get the new comers up to speed and efficient as soon as possible, familiarizing them with the working environment and the job as soon as possible;
  • ensure that unified sets of information and messages about UNDP and BPPS are delivered to all, to familiarize them with rules, customs and procedures;
  • positively impact the work environment of the new comers so they feel professionally welcomed and supported;
  • provide the new comers a first and immediate chance to access information on what the organization and the Bureau’s priorities are.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will be required to:

  • Research on the existing UNDP corporate toolkits and platforms developed for new comers within the organization;
  • Research on the best practices of similar products developed in HQs New York  and / or other Offices;
  • Identify specific needs of new comers in UNDP New York and within the BPPS;
  • Develop a list of entries that the new comers need to know, including: infrastructure of the office; business tasks, Bureau’s mission and services, etc
  • Develop a timeline when the new comer will meet colleagues within the Cluster, the Bureau and key partners;
  • Set up the necessary logistic steps for the first days in the office and include them in the toolkit;
  • Identify roles and responsibilities as per certain stages of the induction process.
  • The handbook / toolkit, as the final product of the services, will be placed on line in the BPPS Intranet workspace and possibly made available in a smart phone / tablet application.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled and actively pursuing or have recently graduated from a Bachelor’s/ Master's degree in Social Studies.
  • Must be fluent in English;
  • A past exposure to an office management environment.
