Background

UNV is based in Bonn, Germany. UNV has a staff of around 150 at headquarters, and almost 7,000 volunteers deployed in the field. Four Regional Offices in Bangkok, Dakar, Nairobi and Panama City develop regional inter-ventions to advance peace and development, and around 80 Field Units represent the organization at the coun-try level. UNV is active in around 130 countries every year. With field presences in over 80 countries, UNV is represented worldwide.

You will join the Capacity Development team of the Human Resources Section (HRS) at UNV Headquarters. HRS supports UNV in achieving its mandate by partnering with senior and line management and by servicing UNV personnel globally to meet the strategic HR needs of the organization. We design and implement services and initiatives to attract, develop, motivate, and retain personnel with the best talents to match UNV’s needs. We also deliver strategic capacity development projects and solutions to facilitate the learning and development of UN volunteers globally.

Duties and Responsibilities

You will be working under the supervision of the Team Leader, Capacity Development and as an integral part of our team. As such, you will to support the design and delivery of capacity development services and learning solutions for UN Volunteers and UNV Personnel in UNV headquarter and field locations.

You will be involved in a range of projects and will have opportunities to connect with personnel, managers and volunteers across the globe. Depending on our priorities and your competencies and interests we will involve you in activities most relevant to you. Activities and projects will be organized around the following areas:

  • Planning and organizing onsite and online learning activities such as workshops, events and webinars
  • Researching best practices, gathering data and producing reports and documents on capacity development and learning activities

Exploring and supporting the use of online learning tools, social media platforms and web-based learning solutions and making recommendations as to their potential in advancing volunteer learning

Competencies

We are looking for highly motivated and qualified candidates that are interested in getting to know the work of the United Nations, UNV and more generally international development cooperation and volunteerism. For this particular assignment you will ideally bring prior knowledge and experience in Human Resources, capacity development, online learning solutions and/or social media.

  • Experience in organizing workshops or events and making travel arrangements
  • Experience in one or several of the following: analysing data and producing statistics, charts and data tables in Excel; using online social media platforms and tools
  • Internet proficiency and solid knowledge of standard office application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Fluency in English

Required Skills and Experience

  • Currently enrolled in or within one year since the graduation from a Master’s degree in social science, human resources, public administration, education or a related field
