The Animation Intern’s primary function is to support the Media & Advocacy Team’s video production services. These services include writing, filming, editing, publishing, and promoting video content, as well as technical and editorial support throughout UNDP global.

Secondly, the Animation Intern will be working on series of short animations promoting the Sustainable Development Goals. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, digital editing software, video formats, file conversion and sharing software is required. 

The job requires creativity, enthusiasm in learning, good communication skills and the ability to meet deadlines and maintain high-quality of output working under pressure. The ability to use good judgment and experience working in a multi-cultural setting are critical. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Video production support:

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Media & Advocacy team, the Video Intern’s duties will include:

  • Producing animated videos of UNDP’s work;
  • Responding to requests for video support and material;
  • Managing production equipment, including computer hardware and software;
  • Publishing video products online via the website and social media; 

Competencies

  • Adobe After Effects; Adobe Creative Suite; Final Cut Pro X editing skills (or Adobe Premiere);
  • Production of animated content, motion graphics and infographics;
  • Recording broadcast/professional quality video and audio;
  • Knowledge of lighting;
  • Knowledge of different video formats and file conversions from multiple formats;
  • Video publishing online and social media;
  • Excellent writing and communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Attention to details;
  • Identifies priority activities and assignments;
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals;
  • Maintain confidentiality.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • a) Student enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) field of study: animation, graphics arts, etc.;
  • b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Experience:

  • Sound knowledge in computer skills, video editing and animation software (Adobe After Effects; Adobe Creative Suite; Final Cut Pro X editing skills or Adobe Premiere);

Language:

  • Fluency in English (French and Spanish an asset);
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an asset.

Conditions:

  • Interns are considered gratis personnel. They are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity
  • Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP. The costs associated must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation, visa, etc.
  • Interns must have a valid work visa and be able to work in UNDP HQ located in New York
  • Interns must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan ( valid medical insurance identification);
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;

Once the candidate has been selected, the following additional documents need to be submitted:

  • UNDP's application of internship (form duly completed and signed);
  • Updated CV/resume
  • A brief letter of intent (cover letter) indicating why  you seeking internship and what is expected from the experience;
  • Copy of current enrolment verification from your school (transcript);
  • Letter of endorsement from a senior faculty member;
  • Copy of school transcript;
  • Scanned medical insurance document.

Insurance:

UNDP accepts no responsibility for the medical and life insurance of the intern or costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship. As interns are not covered under any insurance, including MAIP, they should not travel to hazardous locations in the course of their internship with UNDP.

Applicants for internship must show proof of valid medical and life/accident insurance for the duty station for which they will work. It must include adequate coverage in the event of an injury or illness during the internship which:

  • requires transportation to the Home Country or Country of Residence for further treatment; or
  • results in death and requires preparation and return of the remains to the Home Country, or Country of Residence
