Background

Under the general supervision of the Management Support Unit (MSU) Team Leader and reporting directly to MSU’s Program Associatethe MSU IB and SDG Intern will provide support services to the SDG is our Biz project.

The project aims to capture private sector contribution towards SDGs, inspire action among companies, and eventually integrate this initiative into the national reporting process of the country’s progress towards SDGs. The project has three main components:

  • Capacity building and Integrated Reporting Framework for Philippine companies;
  • Mobile application and online reporting platform;
  • Certification/Recognition System and External Assurance Design.

The UNDP MSU Intern will work in close collaboration with project partners Philippine Business for the Environment (PBE) and Ateneo Institute of Sustainability (AIS) and will be based out of PBE or AIS offices. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The support services needed from the intern include the following:

Research and Analytical Tasks:

  • Research existing reporting systems, standards, and metrics of local and international companies (e.g. Global Reporting Initiative, Jow Dones Sustainability Index, FTSE4Good, SDG Compass, etc.) and the Philippine government that are related to SDGs;
  • Conduct data mining and systems dynamics under the guidance of AIS and PBE;
  • Analyze and present proposed business metrics for companies’ contributions to SDGs.

Performs other related tasks as may be identified by his/her supervisor:

Project Management:

  • Submit a weekly one-page progress report to UNDP’s Program Associate.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Applicants must meet one of the following academic requirements:

  • (a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • (b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);

  • (c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation. and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation. Preferably with university units in Economics, Development Studies, Social Sciences or any related field. 

Experience:

  • Some experience in research, private sector engagement, data analysis, and report writing.  
  • Knowledge of economic and development cooperation issues, SDGs, private sector, emerging innovative business models, and other related fields.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in Filipino and English.
