Background

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Guinea-Bissau ensures its support to Guinea-Bissau through Country Program Documents developed jointly with the Government of Guinea-Bissau. The UNDP Country Program Document is an integral part of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework Program, which is a joint response of all United Nations Resident Agencies, commonly referred to as UNDAF.

The five-year Country Program Document (2016-2020) was designed taking into account UNDP's mandate and past experience in Guinea-Bissau, particularly in support of good governance and inclusive sustainable development. The Program will make a significant contribution to achieving the following three UNDAF outcomes:

  • State institutions, including in the areas of defence, security, and justice, consolidate stability and the rule of law, democratic participation, and equitable access to opportunities for all.
  • Economic growth is inclusive and sustainable, promoting poverty reduction, decent work, food security, and the structural transformation of the economy.
  • Public institutions, civil society organizations, and the private sector promote the preservation and development of biodiversity, and the prevention and management of disaster risks.??

This program will also contribute to three national priorities, namely to consolidate rule of law and democratic governance and to reform state institutions; to promote economic growth and poverty reduction; and to ensure the sustainable management of natural capital and to preserve biodiversity.

UNDP depend on Program and Operations Units in its organizational structure to achieve these results and priorities, through its mission of strengthening national capacities that is materialized with programming, execution and evaluation of projects.
