Background

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is UN’s global development organization. 

The Intern will work as part of the Information and Communication Technology Unit (ICTU)

Objectives:

  • To backstop the implementation of mobile computing.
  • After training and orientation the intern will provide technical support (Helpdesk) to UNDP staff and Affiliated Agencies.
  • Train users on MS Office applications and other related software
  • Ensure all UNDP and Affiliated Agencies machines have standardized software and are up-to-date. (service packs and antivirus)

Expected Output

  • Users are configured on new laptops and are trained;
  • Prompt response to user helpdesk requests;
  • Users are trained on using and basic troubleshooting of MS Office applications and other related software.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under the direct supervision of the Information Communications Technology Associate (ICT Associate) provide technical support to UNDP Staff and other users from Affiliated UN agencies (Helpdesk support);
  • Creating new profiles for users in laptops and migrating data from old desktops to the Server;
  • Setting up email accounts in MS Outlook and configuring digital signatures;
  • Make and install image files using ghosting software;
  • Training users on use of docking stations and roaming profiles;
  • LAN management;
  • User support on Ms Office applications and any other official software.

Required Skills and Experience

Applicants to the UNDP internship program must, at the time of application, fulfill the following requirement:

Education:

  • (a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in Information Systems / Computers Science or related studies;
  • (b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in Information Systems / Computers Science or related studies;
  • (c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Experience:

  • Web development and database management skills;
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software and MS Windows 7, 8 and 10 Operating System and other web enabled database systems;
  • Hardware and software troubleshooting skills;
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively under pressure in a team and in a multicultural environment. 

Language:

  • Good knowledge of Portugues, French or English.

  Conditions of the internship:

  • UNDP will not pay for the internship; all expenses connected with it will be borne by the intern;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship.  The Intern must provide proof of enrolment in a health insurance plan;
  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institutions;
  • The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
