Background

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) internship programme offers an outstanding graduate-level student the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNDP's work with the objective of deepening his/her knowledge and understanding of UNDP’s goals, principles and activities. It is designed to complement development-oriented studies with practical experience in various professional aspects. Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP.

 Objective of the internship:

Intern assignment is an opportunity to learn through experience and develop relevant professional and soft skills. It will provide young specialist with a way to meaningfully contribute to peace and sustainable human development results.

Organizational Context:

Under the overall guidance of the Procurement Associate, the Procurement Intern provides overall support services to the Procurement Unit, ensuring high quality and timeliness of work, ensures accurate, timely and properly recorded/documented service delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities

Functions / Key Results Expected:

Provides effective support to the Procurement Unit focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Support in maintaining proper filing system;
  • Support in archiving and documentation preparation;
  • Implementation of electronic storage system (e-archiving);
  • Organizational support in operation processes;
  • Market research activities: support in expanding vendor rosters and assisting in sourcing strategies development and implementation;
  • Other administrative support to Procurement Unit;
  • Travel booking requests and DSA calculation.

Required Skills and Experience

Applicants to the UNDP internship program must, at the time of application, fulfill the following requirement:

Education:

  • (a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in Management, Accountant, Logistics, Administration;
  • (b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in Management, Accountant, Logistics, Administration ;
  • (c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Experience:

  • Web development and database management skills;
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, System and other web enabled database systems;
  • Hardware and software troubleshooting skills;
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively under pressure in a team and in a multicultural environment. 

Language:

  • Good knowledge of Portuguese, French or English.

  Conditions of the internship:

  • UNDP will not pay for the internship; all expenses connected with it will be borne by the intern;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship.  The Intern must provide proof of enrolment in a health insurance plan;
  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institutions;
  • The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.

  • Letter confirming University enrolment.
