Background

Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Project Manager for the project “Cooperation in implementation of the NHRAP for 2016-2020 in the area of rule of law and the access to justice”, the Intern will provide assistance in project implementation.

The Intern will work in close collaboration with the operations, programme and project staff in the UNDP CO as well as with national partners (Supreme Court, Ministry of Adalat, Bar Association, National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights) to exchange information and support overall project delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager the intern will be responsible for:

  • Support in background research on activities related to the project;
  • Assists in drafting reports for the project, editing and proofreading ;
  • Assisting with the minutes during the meetings;
  • Working with consultants and preparing some technical inputs into their work;
  • Provision of the administrative support (drafting correspondence, making copies, filing documents);
  • Provision of the logistical support during project meetings, project events and  missions;
  • Performing other tasks if required.

Required Skills and Experience

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Development Programme in Turkmenistan Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

• Applicants must meet the following requirements:

(a) be enrolled in the 3, 4 or final academic year of a university degree programme or in a graduate school programme in social sciences, preferably in Law and Legal Studies; or

 (b) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) a one year period of graduation;

• Be computer literate in standard software applications;

• Speak and write clearly and effectively in English and Russian (Turkmen language will be an asset);

• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

On completion of their internship, interns are required to complete a substantive report on their assignments. This will be included in their file and will be forwarded, upon request, to the sponsoring institution, government body or private organization.

There should be no expectation of employment by the United Nations Turkmenistan upon completion of the internship. United Nations Turkmenistan interns are not paid.
