Background

Since December 2014, UNDP Armenia is implementing "Women in Local Democracy 2" Project (hereinafter “WiLD 2”) with the financial support of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. Recently the project entered its 2nd phase, funded by GIZ/SDC. The project is implemented in partnership with the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development (MTAD) and aims at advancement of women leadership and gender equality in regions/communities of Armenia through enhanced knowledge and mechanisms for progressive realization of women’s rights at the local level. The project will work in the following directions:

  • Empowerment of women to advance their political leadership potential and skills vis-à-vis community development processes
  • Supporting women to advance their leadership potential and skills through economic   empowerment models
  • Empowerment of active youth in the communities through empathy-building leadership models as enablers of local democracy and women support groups
  • Strengthening gender responsive and accountable governance in communities (focus on clusters), as well as gender mainstreaming throughout Territorial Administration Reform both at policy and local levels.

Currently UNDP Armenia seeks a qualified Intern to support the WiLD 2 project team. The Intern will work under direct supervision of the Project Coordinator and in close cooperation with the UNDP Project team, Democratic Governance Portfolio, and the counterpart institutions/organizations. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the Intern will include:

  • Work with the Project Database and Content Management Systems

WiLD 2 project its specific Database and Content Management System (DBCMS) designed to ensure comprehensive Project-related data collection. As of today, the DBCMS includes more than 3200 women and men. The Intern will be responsible for regular inputs and maintenance of the Database and Content Management System, as well as other project spreadsheets by collecting, compiling, and exchanging data with the national and international partners.  

  • Work with Social Media 

Social media is one of the primary public awareness channels of the WiLD 2 project.  The Intern will be responsible for the regular contribution and maintenance of the project social media platforms and networks, report on analytics, as well as insight dynamics.

  • Provide administrative and logistical support 

The Intern will provide support to the Project team in administrative and logistical work. The support will include arrangements for the organized meetings/events/workshops, as well as translation and interpretation services from/to English and Armenian during meetings, as required.  

  • Other duties 

Other tasks may be assigned as required.

  • Knowledge of gender-related aspects and trends in Armenia will be a strong asset;
  • Demonstrated initiative, tact and high sense of responsibility and discretion; 
  • Strong teamwork skills;
  • Ability to work under the pressure; 
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral; 
  • Excellent networking skills;
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office (MS Word, Excel, etc.); ability to design and maintain spreadsheets, as well as in handle web-based management systems. 

Required Skills and Experience

Eduaction:

  • Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following education requirements: 

Be enrolled in a graduate school programme in fields such as  Social or Political sciences, journalism, IT, communications or a related field (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); OR Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in fields such as Social or Political sciences, journalism, IT, communications or a related field (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); OR Have graduated with a university degree in fields such as  Social or Political sciences, journalism, IT, communications or a related field.

Languages:  

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and Armenian, Russian is a strong asset.

Experience:

  • Experience in working with databases and social media

Financial Issues:

  • Internships within the UN system are unpaid and subject to conditions the applicant must get familiar with prior to signing his/her internship agreement.
