Background

The Kingdom of Bahrain has committed to present its Voluntary National Review (VNR) on SDG progress, during the High Level Political Forum to be held in July 2018 in New York.  UNDP will provide technical support for the preparation of that Review, through the hiring of a consultant with expertise in VNRs for other countries. More information on VNRs in Annex.[1]

 

During the 2018 session of the HLPF, the Goals addressed will be 6 (clean water and sanitation), 7 (affordable and clean energy), 11 (sustainable cities and communities), 12 (responsible consumption and production), and 16 (life on land), with the theme “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies.”

Duties and Responsibilities

Objectives

 

The consultancy is expected to produce three overall results:

  • Knowledge sharing on VNR best practices from other countries
  • Strengthened capacities of national counterparts to design, prepare and draft a Bahrain VNR
  • Improved VNR draft by providing feedback on drafts

 

 

 

Competencies

 

 

The consultant will conduct three main activities:

  1. Desk review of VNRs in other countries
  2. One-week mission to work with key national counterparts and train on VNR (Information e-Government Authority, Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, MOFA, First Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, among others)  
  3. Remote feedback on VNR drafts

Required Skills and Experience

Requirements

 

  • Master Degree in Development or any related fields.
  • Proven expertise on the SDGs, and direct experience with the global HLPF and preparation of VNRs in other countries.
  • Understanding of Bahrain and similar countries economic, social, political and environmental context.
