Background

Purpose of Internship Programme:

  • Provide a framework by which students from diverse academic backgrounds may be assigned to UNDP Montenegro, where their educational experience can be enhanced through practical work assignments;
  • Expose them to an international environment;
  • Expose them to the work of UNDP and UN in Montenegro with an objective of deepening their knowledge and understanding of UN’s goals, principles and activities; and
  • Provide UNDP with the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields;
  • Internships will allow successful candidates to have an opportunity to work in a multi-cultural international organization
  • Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP.

Towards Carbon Neutral Tourism in Montenegro, project financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) is dedicated to promoting carbon neutral tourism development through fostering sustainability and encouraging innovation in business. The approach engages partners from industry, government and other broader community and will identify and prioritize innovation opportunities, by explaining interrelationships of tourism and climate change from a mitigation perspective.

Carbon neutral tourism is a newly developing branch of tourism, appealing to those tourists seeking to minimize the carbon footprint of their travel. Because of its diverse geography - mountains, coastlines, lowlands, rivers and lakes - Montenegro could immensely benefit from this emerging trend. Promoting the country’s transition towards carbon neutral travel & tourism thus enhancing Montenegro’s green reputation on the global market.

A blend of traditional and new media outlets are being used as a powerful tool for public awareness-raising concerning tourism and environment. The Project needs an effective online and (social) media marketing that will help to promote a country’s contemporary tourism appeal within a changing and highly competitive global market.

Duties and Responsibilities

Intern will provide support to the Project "Towards Carbon Neutral Tourism" in day-to-day activities related to increasing awareness and visibility of the project through innovation and new media. Under the guidance and overall supervision of the Programme Manager and Project Coordinators, the Intern will be expected to carry out the following core responsibilities:

  • Active participation and creative inputs in creation of different Project’s communication products and materials for conferences, forums and other events;
  • Development and posting creative contents of the Project’s web page and its social media profiles;
  • Contribute to online engagement activities helping create online community of fans that spreads the word about the Project;
  • Deploying various social media instruments to disseminate messages about the Project;
  • Prepare infographics, stories and blogs from events and project milestones.

The assignment will be home based, with regular meetings with the Project team.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Student or recent graduate of Arts, Communications, Social or Technical Sciences (only current students or graduates who can start the internship within one-year of graduation will be taken into consideration);
  • Knowledge in creating infographics, developing and posting web contents, writing stories and using social media;
  • Excellent computer skills, proven skills related to posting contents on web sites; (WordPress or similar programs) and social media;
  • Excellent knowledge of local and English language, written and spoken.
