Background

 

UNDP Governance Unit supports Angola’s efforts to advance good governance through technical assistance. Good governance involves citizen participation in governance and political processes, and strong and democratic institutions based on rights, rule of law, transparency and accountability. Such institutions can deliver more effective services and spearhead the country towards the realization of the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development. It is the responsibility of the Programme Specialist and Project Managers and Programme Associate for Financial Administration in the Governance Cluster to ensure UNDP delivers this support to Angola.

The INTERN will provide direct assistance to the Programme Specialist and Project Managers in the Governance Unit with follow up and monitoring of projects implementation; with planning of project activities, will support with projects financial operations processes between Project Managers and Programme Associate and UNDP’s financial departments as well as with UNDP’s partners when necessary, and will support with information gathering, compilation and analysis. The INTERN will also support Programme Specialist and Project Managers with relevant administrative, organizational and logistical tasks related to project management, and will be involved in UNDP’s internal development and staff forums and processes when invited and required. Overall, INTERN will have the opportunity to gain general work experience and development work experience particularly in the governance sector but also beyond, will be able to accumulate knowledge and understanding of the nature of UNDP work and institutional principles, policies and procedures. These combined experiences and exposure will help the INTERN complement their academic activity with practical experience and possibly to inspire them on future career paths. 

Objective of the internship: to provide support to UNDP’s Governance Unit.

Eligibility for internships in UNDP

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme; enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Ensures efficient project management support, focusing on achieving the following results:

  • Projects implementation, follow up, monitoring and reporting;
  • Planning of projects activities and liaison with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Projects financial operations linkages with Programme Associate for Finances, with UNDP Financial Unit and other internal and external stakeholders;
  • Preparation of routine letters, correspondence, memoranda and reports as needed;
  • Extracting, inputting, copying and filing data from various sources;
  • Compilation of information for meetings and writing minutes; 
  • Activities preparation, administrative processes, development activites, etc.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Enrolled student of a degree programme or completed 4 years of full-time studies at a university in the field of Social Sciences with priority for Development Studies, Development Management, Business or Public Administration, Political Science, Economics and other related disciplines.
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Experience:

  • No experience required.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in Portuguese and good working knowledge of English.

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP.

Conditions of internship:

  • UNDP internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship. 
  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring government or institutions;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of the internship;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
