In line with its Private Sector and Foundation Strategy, UNDP is becoming increasingly well positioned to support innovative approaches of inclusive market and business development engaging with the private sector and other stakeholders to improve opportunities for the poor to participate in markets as producers, employees or consumers.
With Africa being a major focus of UNDPs work, a strategic, regional Private Sector and Inclusive Market Development for Poverty Reduction in Africa project, the “African Facility for Inclusive Markets” (AFIM), operated from November 2010 to 2014. AFIM is now part of the Regional Bureau for Africa’s Regional Programme Document (RPD), under Outcome 1, “Growth and development are inclusive and sustainable, incorporating productive capacities that create employment and livelihoods, especially for the poor and excluded”, and more specifically Output 3: Regional and sub regional systems and institutions enabled to support countries to achieve structural transformation of productive capacities that are sustainable and jobs- and livelihoods-intensive.
The Regional Programme is implemented by private sector personnel part of the Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development (IGSD) Cluster of the UNDP Regional Service Centre for Africa (RSCA), based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The main initiatives in relation to private sector work under Outcome 1 / Output 3 are as follows:

Additionally, the IGSD Cluster also provides on-demand support to 46 UNDP Country Offices (COs) in the Regional Bureau for Africa, in the area of private sector development and engagement.
The IGSD Cluster would like to recruit an intern to provide programmatic support to its regional private sector initiatives in Africa.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Regional Private Sector Special Advisor of the IGSD Cluster, the intern shall perform, inter alia, the following tasks:
