Background

UNDP implements projects and programmes within the scope of the Country Program Document 2016-2020 (CPD). The CPD is guided by the National Priorities for International Assistance (2014-2017), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and builds on results achieved to date. The focus of the new programme is on: (a) accountable and representative governance institutions serving people; (b) equal participation for women and lives free of violence; (c) inclusive and sustainable growth; and (d) low-carbon and climate-resilient development.

Within the Environment and NRM portfolio, UNDP provides support to the Government of Serbia to implement Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) by strengthening capacities both at national and local level by strengthening participation in MEAs through targeted research, a comprehensive overview of MEA issues and activities, and ongoing input from civil society. The portfolio also includes a project in agriculture with activities related to promotion of productive capacities and competitiveness of the agricultural sector of Serbia to increase trade and foster income generation in rural areas. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Portfolio Manager, the Intern will be expected to perform the following tasks:

  • Provide operational support to the activities under the portfolio, including logistic and administrative support to trainings, workshops, conferences and other events;  
  • Provide support to research, analyses and studies conducted within the portfolio, related to current projects and new emerging initiatives such as private sector, blended finance, etc.; 
  • Perform any other duties within the scope of the portfolio, as required.

  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Evidence of ability to express ideas clearly; to work independently and in teams;
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of English and Serbian. 

Required Skills and Experience

Positions on Green and circular economy

  • Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in economics, finance, environmental sciences, organizational sciences, or other relevant fields.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and policies related to economy, circular economy, environment and related issues.
  • Previous experience in the field would be considered as an asset.

Positions on Economy, finance, investment and banking

  • Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in economics, finance, investment, banking, organizational sciences, or other relevant fields.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and policies related to economy, finance and related issues.
  • Previous experience in the field (e.g. private sector, banking) would be considered as an asset.

Special Note

 

UNDP internships are performed strictly on a non-remunerative basis. The intern must make his/her own arrangements concerning all expenses associated with the internship, including living expenses and travel costs.

The intern is personally responsible for and must provide proof of adequate and regular medical insurance and must maintain such insurance during the internship.

 

Mandatory UNDP requirements for internship

 

In order to qualify for an internship at UNDP, the candidate needs to meet the following enrolment conditions:

  • Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

The successful candidate will join us for internship assignment duration of  3 to 6 months within the period March 2018 – March 2019.

  • Copy of his/her most recent resume or curriculum vitae.
  • Letter from his/her university confirming current enrolment and graduation date, or copy of diploma if already graduated.
  • Copy of his/her school transcript.
  • Endorsement letter or letter of reference from a faculty member, if requested.

The successful candidate will be asked to provide, prior to commencing work, the following documentation:

  • A signed UNDP Internship Agreement.
  • Medical Certificate of Good Health.
  • Proof of medical insurance valid for Serbia; and
