Background

The United Nations has an important role to play in raising public awareness, influencing policy and decision makers as well as advocating for development issues. While each agency does so to heighten the visibility of its own brand, the Resident Coordinator’s Office complements this endeavor by advocating for the One UN.

Therefore, the United Nations in Sudan will be collectively engaging with the media, youth and other audiences via improved One UN digital platforms among others to promote the work of the organization. The Resident Coordinator’s Office will be undertaking several activities until the end of the calendar year to steer towards the above-mentioned goals.

The main purpose of the function is to provide day to day support and involves close collaboration with UN agency communication staff and support the RCO in its outreach and communication with national and international partners to ensure efficient flow of information, and action on agendas and instructions provided by the Communication Specialist under the guidance of the Head of RCO.  

Duties and Responsibilities

The Communications Support Intern will be providing RCO with support in three main areas: The One UN digital external channels, support in preparation of UN days and high-level meetings. In detail the IC will address:

  1. Assist in developing content for the English and Arabic one UN website through research and consultations with UN programme and communications staff;

  2. Assist in expanding the reach of existing one UN social media channels mainly the facebook page and the @UNSudan twitter account by promoting more views, likes, and followers;

  3. Suggesting captivating display of visual content for the website and social media channels that would attract visitors, likes and followers;

  4. Assist in processing digital public engagement tools and support assessing public perceptions about the organization;

  5. Support in collecting all necessary content from UN Communications Group members and UN entities such as photos with captions, list of knowledge materials to be showcased during UN day events, and any promotional items that will be used during these events;

  6. Assist in updating the contact data base of all diplomatic missions, donors and bi-lateral and multilateral partners for the UN in Sudan;

  7. Ensure the availability of all name tags and banners for display during high level meetings with external partners;

  8. Support in maintaining a digital library of all RCO activities particularly high-level meetings and press conferences;

  9. Assist in devising the graphical layout of RCO external documents such as the UNDAF Annual Review 2017, RCO monthly report, and other promotional knowledge products produced by the office;

  10. Perform any other duty as and when required.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university

    degree or equivalent, or higher) in communications, public relations,

    media, graphic design, or relevant areas;

    Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree  

    programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in communications, public relations, media, graphic design, or relevant areas;

    Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b)

    above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of

    graduation.
