Background


The UNDP Security Office (SO), institutionally situated within the Bureau for Management Services (BMS), is responsible for all aspects of security management at UNDP Headquarters in the United States of America.

In implementing a new, organization-wide, approach of Security Mainstreaming, the SO has recognized a need to strengthen the Office’s capacity to support and promulgate SO’s position internally, and within the United Nations Security Management System.

The Security Office Intern – Communications and Advocacy – will work with the HQ Policy and Information Specialist and the Communications Associate to identify suitable opportunities to enhance the SO’s communication materials and processes. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The internship will be organized around these main activities:

1.A review of the approaches of sister UN entities, to identify best practices that can be adopted by UNDP;
2.Update, and where necessary, populate the Security Office’s Intranet portal to reflect security communications materials and information;
3.Design and develop an internal Security Office communications strategy, and assist in its implementation by:?Scope SO’s organizational needs and develop a communications strategy

  • Development of the information and communications materials;
  • Implement the fourth pillar of the ‘Security mainstreaming strategy’ of increasing branding, communications and advocacy – focusing on those elements discussed and prioritized from the Security Office retreat 2018.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Student enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Experience:

  • Sound knowledge of the communications processes and media
  • Experience of SharePoint would be beneficial, but not essential

Language:

  • Fluency in English;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an asset.

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP.
