Background

Grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, UN Women will work for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Under the direct supervision and guidance of UN Women's Video Specialist, the intern will assist the Communications Section in various video production tasks, including the production of content aimed at UN Women's social media channels.

The selected candidate will be expected to provide creative input into UN Women's video strategy, helping maximize video audience reach and scope for viral content.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist UN Women video production, including the creation of content for communication campaigns and social media;
  2. Repurpose b-roll and newswire video into social media content with potential for broad audience reach;
  3. Assist in the production of UN Women video features and documentaries, including selecting and editing b-roll, and captioning and formatting clips for social media;
  4. Assist in maintaining and expanding the reach of UN Women’s global YouTube channel;
  5. Assist in research and creative brainstorming surrounding asset creation and distribution for social media and online campaigns;
  6. Provide creative input into video strategy and how to maximize reach and audiences for video content.

Competencies

  • Academic background in media studies, communications, journalism, public policy, international development or other related field.
  • Proven experience with video and photo editing in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects);
  • Strong grasp of latest trends in online video, news and social media; knowledge of virtual reality video a plus;
  • Proven experience in the production of video content aimed at Youtube and Facebook audiences;
  • Fluency in English [specify any other language skills];
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely;
  • Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Must be enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor, or in a Masters degree programme, or be a recent graduate.
  • Must have valid work permission for the United States of America.
  • Fluent in English; Spanish and/or French are a plus.
  • Experience in communications.
  • Proficient in using new technologies, web-based platforms and social media networks.
  • Familiar with women’s rights issues or international development/relations.
  • Self-starter; organized; able to multitask and balance multiple responsibilities.
