If development and English writing is your passion this might be a good opportunity to see different part of the UNDP in work, we produce a lot of documents and with a multi-national workforce the final touches on proposals, project documents, reports and publications need a good eye, knowledge of the English language and perseverance to finalize the documents. We would like to see if you can help to make this process of Quality Assurance smoother, while you will learn a lot from what the UNDP is doing in Asia Pacific. It is a lot of proofreading and writing, so please only apply if writing is your passion.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide support to Quality Assurance for country office and BRH; support, by editing and proofreading, the drafting and preparation of a range of documents including proposals, project documents, research papers, result reports, integrated workplans, publications with high efficiency and with client-ready quality;
  • Set up a tracking-system within AP (using MS SharePoint, a mechanism where country offices can submit documents for proofreading and editing with a reasonable fast turnaround time;
  • where needed work with / coordinate a pool of UNV online proofreaders in support to the 24 Country Offices in Asia Pacific. Set up an allocation system to work with UNV’s online (English proofreading and editing) to support the country offices with proofreading and proposal writing. Check quality of the UNV online work and come up with a recognition system for the online volunteers;
  • Support the Country Offices for partnerships with setting a standard in proposal writing, for traditional funding partners, government financing, private sector, and IFI’s. To be independent and creative in various stages of proposal writing and recommend ways of how within the region this process can be streamlined. Creates a proposal database for sharing among all CO’s;
  • Set up / maintain a proof writing / editing Database to support the Regional Bureau and the 24 Country Offices in the region, from this good practice and examples will be identified and shared back to the Country Offices;
  • When needed attend forums, meetings, and events and make notes and reports of the meetings;
  • To support the Quality Assurance, Innovation or other RPPS teams where needed for day-to-day operations and other ad hoc tasks.

Required Skills and Experience

Education

  • Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or;
  • Enrolled in a final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent) or;
  • Graduated with a university degree - and if selected, must start the internship within one year after graduation;

Field of study: Journalism, Media and TV, Business administration, development or other social science.

Experience

  • Extremely good and experienced in proofreading and editing;
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Word.

Language

  • Superb written communication ability in English.
  • Excellent English editing skills

INTERNSHIP CONDITIONS

  • UNDP internships are not remunerated. All expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern or her/his sponsoring entity;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
  • Interns must provide proof of enrolment in health insurance plan;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
  • Interns are expected to work full time but flexibility is allowed for education programmes;
  • Interns need to obtain financing for subsistence and make own arrangements for internship, travel, VISA, accommodation, etc.

Subsequent Employment:

There is no expectation of employment with UNDP following an internship.

NOTE: If selected for the position, interns are requested to provide a letter from university confirming current enrollment and graduation date, a copy of school transcript, a letter of endorsement from a professor, a medical certificate of good health, a copy of medical insurance coverage during internship assignment in Thailand, and a copy of passport.
