Background

The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry (MAWF) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is implementing the Sustainable Management of Namibia’s Forested Lands (NAFOLA) Project with funding from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF). The project aims to reduce pressure on forest resources by facilitating the gazettement of community forests, and increasing the capacity for the uptake of improved agriculture, livestock and forestry management practices in the community forest areas.

NAFOLA also aims to document and disseminate sustainable land management successes and best practices in the hotspots and to improve the impact of NAFOLA’s work through effective communications and advocacy. As such, the emphasis is on the “know how”, supporting knowledge exchange in Namibia to ensure that good practices are applied and experiences are shared. 

The NAFOLA project thus, seeks the services of an experienced Technical Editor to work with the NAFOLA project to review and edit the drafts of the project’s Knowledge Management Products (publications) and prepare them for professional printing and dissemination.

Duties and Responsibilities

The objective of this consultancy is to, Review and edit drafts of the project’s Knowledge Management Products (publications);  Prepare the publications into clear, professional, concise, detailed, error-free, publishable materials;   Ensures all documents meet required and accepted format and content standards;  Ensure that high-quality publications are produced and disseminated.

The consultant will carry out the following tasks:

  • Undertake comprehensive editing, proofreading and copy editing of drafts of the project’s publications for clarity, punctuation, grammar, and content;
  • Prepare the publications (drafts)  into a format that is professional and user-friendly;
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy in all documentation; and
  • Design, format/layout and prepare the final publications for printing and dissemination.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Master’s Degree in English, communications, journalism, publications, journal articles or any relevant discipline;

Experiences:

  • Minimum of 10 years of proven consultancy-related working experience in the above fields;
  • Strong computer and word processing skills;
  • Strong writing and communication skills in addition to editing, proofreading and page composition skills;
  • Graphic design and/or design software skills;
  • Experience with organizing, interpreting and presenting information in meaningful written form;
  • Proven experience of providing technical expertise of the above nature to government, NGOs, private sector and community-based/ support organisations (CBOs/ CSOs).
  • Experience with the UN system will be an added advantage.

Language Requirements:

  • Proficiency in English, both written and oral, is a must;
  • Fluency in one or several other UN working languages (s) would be an added advantage

Financial Proposal that indicates the all-inclusive fixed total contract price, supported by a breakdown of costs, as per template provided (based on the number of working days mentioned ToR.
