Background

The purpose of the Internship Programme is to provide students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds exposure to communicating development issues and a first-hand impression of the day-to-day working environment of UNDP.

Duties and Responsibilities

1.       Background and Context

UNDP office in Mongolia is currently starting several initiatives on the communications front to attract media attention and give good credit to the work done by the office team. The office seeks to host an intern for six months duration based on the selected candidates’ availability and willingness to assist the Communications officer in the endeavours. The intern will be responsible for providing a range of services to support the effective and efficient implementation of the communication projects in Mongolia. These services include, but are not limited to, social media management, copy writing and production of media products like videos and visual aids, content writing and coordinating with external media organizations when needed. The intern shall also be involved in some research activities.

2.       Scope of Assignment

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Communication Officer of UNDP, the Intern will undertake his/her assigned tasks indicated in the below :

  • Support in the design of visual materials like posters, roll-ups and greeting cards;
  • Copy writing and production of promotional videos for digital use;
  • Attend with the Communications officer events and ensure proper media coverage is taking place;
  • Scan the market for prospect media partnerships;
  • Social media management tasks (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram);
  • Support in conducting Researches and collecting data as requested;
  • Ensure website is updated and fed with any viable content that serves UNDP and its office in Mongolia;
  • Perform any other substantive and/or administrative task that might be required.

Competencies

Experience and core competencies        

·         Understanding of development challenges of Mongolia;

·         Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;

·         Strong work ethics and commitment;

·         Team player, organized and resourceful;

·         Experience in writing for the web, planning, infographics, photography and project and events management is desirable;

·         Photoshop or any other image-editing software a must. Video-editing software knowledge is desirable;

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office and its tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and various graphic design packages;

Required Skills and Experience

Qualifications/Requirements:

·         Bachelor’s* or Master’s degree in graphics/book design, business, marketing or related  field; either obtained or in progress

·         Basic understanding of the concept of development;

·         Written and spoken proficiency in English and Mongolian;

* Eligibility requirements

1.         Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

(a)           Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

(b)           Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);

(c)            Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
