Background

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) operates in 177 countries, offering global perspective to reduce inequalities and increase sustainability, through the implementation of strategic plans. Within this challenging scenario, partnership development is a crucial aspect for the achievement of UNDP goals and the engagement of different institutions among the private and public sectors. UNDP office in Rome provides the opportunity to investigate and learn about the importance of Partnership creation, in order to react at global changes adapting strategic, innovative and practical solutions.

In support of Italy’s commitment made at the G7 Environment Ministers Meeting in Bologna in June 2017, the Italian Ministry of Environment and UNDP have signed a framework cooperation agreement. The Italian Ministry of Environment and UNDP will jointly work on areas of common interest in development cooperation through the UNDP Africa Centre for Climate and Sustainable Development (ACSD) under the leadership by BERA as following: 

  • Center for information sharing on initiatives on climate change, energy, resource efficiency and Sustainable Development in Africa; and
  • UNDP-Italy Bilateral Cooperation Project.

ACSD will also provide technical and logistical support to development cooperation activities of the Italian Ministry of Environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will be assisting the Coordinator of the ACSD and the rest of the team in implementing ACSD’s partnership strategy with the following key duties:

Tasks

1. Support on partnership development and portfolio management

  • Track implementation of bilateral cooperation agreements between Italy and Sub-Saharan Countries (English speaking ones), setting priorities, goals, and key performance indicators for each partnership.
  • Coordinate with Communication and other UNDP Groups as well as Italian counterparts on outreach and marketing activities relevant to the Partnership Portfolio Management team’s work.
  • Prepare as needed country briefs, background documents and other supporting material for meetings of the ACSD coordinator within Joint committee set up in the framework of the bilateral cooperation Italy has with English speaking Sub-Saharan countries
  • Review the existing agreements signed between UNDP and the Italian Government and between the Italian Ministry of Environment and the relevant countries in Africa.
  • Prepare a brief, to-the-point plan of action to prepare the required project documents for the support to the bilateral cooperation between Italy and the interested countries. This will ensure that expectations about the deliverables are clearly understood between all relevant parties involved.

2. Support on delivering projects

  • Research donor specific data and provide analyses to inform prioritization of RM initiatives and decision-making by senior management.
  • Support presentation of signature products and initiatives to maximize resource mobilization opportunities.
  • Provide advice based on research and data for sharing with the network of country level partnership/resource mobilization officers.
  • Integrate any feedback from the UNDP Country Offices, beneficiary counterparts, and donor into final versions of the Prodoc’s and submit to the ACSD coordinator for presentation to the joint committee

3. Support knowledge building and knowledge sharing in ACSD:

  • Contribute to ACSD knowledge repository including partner database, resource mobilization toolkit, and all other tools for Country Office outreach for partner engagement.
  • Research, compile and share lessons learned from partner engagement across teams and regions in support of corporate priorities.

Required Skills and Experience

Education ?

  • Education in the field of economics, business, public administration, political science,international development or related field.

Language and additional skills

  • Written and spoken proficiency in English is required. Fluency in Italian is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office package (Especially MS Excel, Word and Powerpoint).
  • Demonstrated interest in partnerships building, research and relationship management.
  • Good interpersonal skills and willingness to contribute
  • Commitment to UNDP mission and values 

CONDITIONS

Eligibility

The intern in order to be eligible for the position must ,at the time of application ,meet one of the following requirements:

A)   Be enrolled in a graduate school programme

B)   Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme

C)   Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation

Financial Issues

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP . The student must make his/her own arrangements for travel,visa, accommodation,etc..
