What we do?

UNDP Turkey works for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth, Inclusive and Democratic Governance and Climate Change and Environment. For more than 50 years the UNDP has worked in close partnership with the Turkish Government and numerous national and international institutions, including NGOs, academics and the business community.

UNDP supports Turkey's ambitious reform agenda where EU accession figures prominently.

UNDP Turkey aims to find practical solutions to Turkey's development challenges and manages projects together with the Turkish Government and other partners to address them. Since 1986 it has implemented over 80 programs across the country. In addition, the UNDP has played a major role in response to crises and disasters in Turkey and the surrounding region.

UNDP’s work with the Private Sector

UNDP Turkey has been successful in establishing over 50 partnerships with the private sector through building on UNDP’s comparative advantage in building local capacities for enhanced social inclusion of vulnerable groups among disabled, youth and women and less developed communities and tackle environmental challenges. The examples of partnerships make UNDP Turkey as the leading agency in development partnerships and CSR with extensive experience over the past two decades.

UNDP’s partnerships with private sector support an inclusive economy. Inclusive business models create win-win situation for all stakeholders. The partnerships between UNDP and businesses create both social and business impact, which cultivate a healthier growing economy.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Description of Work

Under the overall guidance/direct supervision of the Strategic Partnerships and Private Sector Programme Manager of UNDP Turkey Country Office, the intern provides support to the private sector agenda of UNDP ensuring high quality of work, accurate, timely and properly performed/documented delivery of planned activities. The Intern promotes a client-focused, quality and results-oriented approach in the CO.

The Intern shall work in close collaboration with TUSIAD and TURKONFED in Istanbul.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Intern

The Private Sector Intern shall assist in the following tasks:

  • Implementation of the private sector operations of UNDP Turkey in accordance with the UNDP rules and procedures
  • Support to TUSIAD and TURKONFED in joint initiatives of UNDP, namely for Business for Goals, Connecting Business initaitive and others as required
  • Provide general support in the coordination of the organisations with regards to the Business for Goals Platform.
  • Provide support with note-taking in meetings and reporting back to the team
  • Coordination and assistance to management of events and organisations related to the Business for Goals Platform
  • Engage in research for the Platform
  • Provide assistance with communication activities
  • Provide support for the communication with stakeholders
  • Maintenance of files and records relevant to the Platform
  • Conduct research on best practices and potential solutions to identified issues
  • Conduct of market research
  • Filing & documentation
  • Any other duties assigned in the context of UNDP, TUSIAD and TURKONFED joint initiatives.

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Application of the UNDP Internship Program MUST, at the time of application, fulfil the following requirement(s):

Education

Applicants to UNDP internships must at the time of application meet one of the following academic requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in Business Administration, International Relations, Engineering, Law or
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) in Business Administration, International Relations, Engineering, Law; or
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Experience:

  • No experience required.

Evaluation Process

  • The applicants meeting the minimum qualification requirements in section 6.1 above shall be shortlisted and invited for an interview. The candidate who secures the highest score in interview shall be considered for Procurement Intern Assignment.

Availability & Duration

  • Available full-time for a minimum period of 3 months with 2 weeks probationary period. The assignment is extendable for another 3 months based on Intern’s performance.
  • Private Sector Intern is expected to work full time: Monday – Friday.

Language

  • Good knowledge of English and Turkish.

Conditions of the Internship:

  • UNDP will not pay for the internship; all expenses connected with it will be borne by the intern;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship.? The Intern must provide proof of enrolment in a health insurance plan;
  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institutions;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.

The incumbent of the position should strictly avoid

  • any kind of discriminatory and abusive behaviour including gender-based discrimination 
  • any kind form of sexual harassment, sexual exploitation and abuse 

The incumbent of the position should ensure that 

  • human rights and gender equality is prioritized as an ethical principle within all actions;
  • activities are designed and implemented in accordance with “Social and Environmental Standards of UNDP”;
  •  any kind of diversities based on ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, disability, religion, class, gender are respected within all implementations including data production;
  •  differentiated needs of women and men are considered;
  •  inclusive approach is reflected within all actions and implementations, in that sense an enabling and accessible setup in various senses such as disability gender language barrier is created;
  • necessary arrangements to provide gender parity within all committees, meetings, trainings etc. introduced;
  • zero tolerance principle to sexual harassment, sexual exploitation and abuse is prioritized.

UNDP prioritizes gender equality and women's empowerment approach in all its actions, workplace relations and implementations as well as gender parity in representation to create a workplace which is equally inclusive of women, men and persons with other gender identities. Temporary special measures will be instituted to ensure appointment of personnel of under-represented genders at grades and in roles where they are under-represented
