Background

The UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (UN Trust Fund) was established by General Assembly Resolution 50/166, with UN Women as the Fund’s Administrator on behalf of the UN system. The UN Trust Fund is a leading multi-lateral grant-making mechanism providing support for governments, non-governmental organizations and UN Country Teams working to address the global pandemic of violence against women and girls. To date, the UN Trust Fund has awarded $139 million to 493 organizations in 139 countries and territories. Currently, the UN Trust Fund portfolio includes 121 active grants.

Under the supervision of the UN Trust Fund Resource Mobilization and Advocacy Manager, the Consultant will be responsible for providing support to resource mobilization team efforts, especially in consideration of organization and coordination of the meetings, events, missions during the 2019. The UN Trust Fund has increased its resource mobilization efforts and significantly increased its resource mobilization revenue in 2018. In order to sustain these efforts and retain the base of donors, the support is required in coordinating the meetings with current and potential donors, in organizing missions and specific donor-focused events. The Consultant will support the Resource Mobilization and Advocacy Manager of the UN Trust Fund in duties associated with coordinating specific tasks as relevant to the UN Trust Fund’s resource mobilization including functioning as a focal point for the organization and coordination of the meetings with current and potential new donors and will be in charge of associated logistics.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Consultant will be supervised by the UN Trust Fund Resource Mobilization and Advocacy Manager and will be responsible for:

  1. Functioning as a focal point for coordination and logistical support in organizing meeting and missions with Member States and other donors:
  • Provide research inputs and updates for donor intelligence sheets prior to meetings and provide notes after 10 meetings with target donors in the period February to September 2019.
  • By end March 2019 provide historic overview and analysis of donor contributions to the UN Trust Fund to inform tailor-made resource mobilization approach and work plan for 2019.
  • Function as focal point for coordination and organization of 2 consultative meetings events with Member States in February/March and June 2019.
  • Coordinate organization and provide logistical support to the Resource Mobilization and Advocacy Manager of the UN Trust Fund in the preparation of 4 resource mobilization missions in first two quarters of 2019.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for events and conferences organized by the UN Trust Fund in 2019, including 5 brownbag events and 1 side event in conjunction with the CSW63.

Required Skills and Experience

Education

  • BA degree or equivalent in social sciences, public administration, international relations, communications, women's studies, or a related field. MA will be considered an asset.

Experience and Competencies

  • At least one year work experience. Prior work with the UN will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of UN system and familiarity with inter-governmental processes;
  • Familiarity with UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women;
  • Good knowledge in supporting meeting, events, missions, resource mobilization efforts;
  • Ample knowledge and use of computer office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word etc.);
  • Excellent command of the English language, knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
