Background

Rapid and continued economic dynamism has translated into growth in China and development financing shifts from government or international aid funding to increasing private sector initiatives, resulting in a rapid change on how resources are being allocated to development issues. It is estimated that approximately half of the investments in the SDGs can be privately financed.

Resource Mobilization and Partnership building are crucial elements of development. To help achieve the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, strengthened partnerships are needed, including partnering with the public, private sector, academia and the world of philanthropy. With the growing number of partners there is a need for coordination within the UNDP office.

As China moves to new development heights, UNDP supports China in improving social inclusiveness and environment sustainability. The continued growth in private sector investments indicates a potential to help close the financing gap by leveraging private sector financing and broader engagement.
