Project Description

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is active in around 130 countries every year. With field presences in over 80 countries, UNV is represented worldwide. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The External Relations and Communications Section builds and nurtures corporate donor relations, strategically leads the donor resource mobilization platform and conducts coherent communications efforts to highlight the value of volunteerism for peace and development and the contributions of UNV and UN Volunteers.

  • Project rationale / background and the objectives of the project; UNV social media cards in English are produced for promotion on social media in support of partner outreach and enhancing UNV’s reputation.
  • Context of the required contracting of services; The service provider will produce a set of social media cards for 9 social media campaigns throughout the year.
  • Relevance/purpose of the work required and how it is linked to the project context  ; UNV’s communication products highlight the key results achieved by UNV and UN Volunteers.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of work

The graphic design work should be done by one designer only. The graphic designer will work closely with the Communications Associate and be responsible for the following tasks/duties:

  • Produce high quality social media cards using content, themes and visuals provided by the Communications Associate;
  • Adapt the graphic design work submitted based on two rounds of feedback by the Communications Associate;
  • The graphic designer is obligated to work within the required deadlines and be available to UNV for comments and corrections.

Deliverables

5-6 editable social media cards for one campaign every month, for nine months (April to December 2019).

  • Excellent graphic design skills, with meticulous attention to detail;
  • Demonstrable creative flair in producing visual concepts and products related to humanitarian and development issues;
  • Ability to work independently and ensure punctual delivery;
  • Ability to provide helpful feedback as soon as required;
  • Flexibility and client-oriented approach. 

Required Skills and Experience

Required Skills and Experience

  • University degree in Graphic Design, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or other relevant fields;
  • Minimum 5 years of graphic design experience, developing creative visuals that depict powerful messages; relevant experience in development and cooperation related areas will be an asset;
  • Demonstrable experience producing social media cards for online promotion and outreach;
  • Proficient user of Photoshop or other photo editing software, and advanced computer skills;
  • Knowledge of the UN, volunteerism and development issues will be required;
  • Request of references for similar graphic design work. UNV will test graphic designers before collaboration.

Evaluation of applicants

Individual consultants will be evaluated based on Combined Scoring method taking into consideration the combination of the applicants’ qualifications and financial proposal.

Applicants obtaining 49 points or more of the total technical points will be considered for financial evaluation.

Combined weighted scoring: Technical (70%); Financial (30%).

  • Design track record with demonstrated experience designing social media cards                 35 points
  • Quality and relevance of social media card samples delivered                                               21 points
  • Relevance of ideas in the methodology proposal                                                                    14 points
