INTERNSHIP OFFICE BACKGROUND:

The UNDP SDG Innovative Finance (UNSIF) is a strategic project to implement the SDGs by working with the investment and business communities. UNSIF takes a holistic ecosystem approach of

  • Convening policy dialogues with public and private sector and building global/national network (Enabling environment)   
  • Engaging asset owners, including institutional and UNHW Families/Individuals (Supply)
  • Preparing investment ready, SDG-aligned sectors and pipelines, with a focus on science, tech and innovation for the future (Demand)
  • Exploring the potential of digital finance and how the frontier technology could be leveraged to leapfrog the realization of the SDGs

The UNSIF project of the Bangkok Regional Hub offers opportunities for interns who may be interested in gaining experience in communications, outreach, design, partnership engagement, with a focus on financing SDGs

The Intern will primarily be involved in the strengthening the positioning and branding of UNSIF – internally to UN stakeholders and staff and externally to targeted audiences.

S/he will report to the Head of Communications & Partnership, with close collaboration with the rest of the UNSIF team. The main tasks of the Intern include the following:

Communications:

  • Support the re-positioning and re-branding process of UNSIF, including the revamp of presentation decks, website development, social media content, etc.
  • Development of various communications and knowledge products, including but not limited to case studies, activity briefs, newsletters, press releases, promotional banners and brochures, infographics, using both digital and traditional channels
  • Support upcoming events in terms of event organization and documentation through multi-media

Partnership:

  • Maintain database for key partners of UNSIF
  • Conduct Due Diligence for new partners as the standard UNDP on-boarding process
  • English-Chinese translation as needed for all content generated, tailored for Chinese-speaking partners

Research

  • Desk research, mapping exercises and potentially interviews/surveys in new areas and markets of SDG innovative finance where UNSIF has or planning to have footprint
  • Topics of research may include and not limited to: digital finance, social entrepreneurship, venture philanthropy, impact measurement and management, incubators and accelerators, Finance for Development (FfD), etc.
  • Support internal knowledge sharing through email, Yammer, etc.

Other tasks as agreed beforehand with the supervisor.

Competencies

  • Strong experience in the branding, including all aspects of online and event-based communication campaigns
  • Ability to write case studies, position papers, news articles, leaflets, brochures, newsletters, as needed;
  • Good knowledge of impact investing, social entrepreneurship, start-ups, etc.
  • Demonstrated interest in the field of development;
  • A desire to work with and gain the confidence and respect of people with different language, national and cultural backgrounds;

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:

  • currently in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree; or
  • currently enrolled in a Master’s degree; or
  • have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from master’s degree or equivalent studies.

Field of study: communications, marketing, business, economics & finance or equivalent.

IT skills:

  • Knowledge and a proficient user of Microsoft Office productivity tools, especially Powerpoint
  • Strong knowledge of website development (WordPress CMS a must, HTML skills preferable), design (Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator)

Language skills:

  • Written and spoken proficiency in English;
  • Written and spoken proficiency in other Asian languages an advantage

INTERNSHIP CONDITIONS

  • UNDP internships are not remunerated. All expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern or her/his sponsoring entity;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
  • Interns must provide proof of enrolment in health insurance plan;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
  • Interns are expected to work full time but flexibility is allowed for education programmes;
  • Interns need to obtain financing for subsistence and make own arrangements for internship, travel, VISA, accommodation, etc.

NOTE: If selected for the position, interns are requested to provide a letter from university confirming current enrollment and graduation date, a copy of school transcript, a letter of endorsement from professor, a medical certificate of good health, a copy of medical insurance coverage during internship assignment in Thailand, and a copy of passport.
